Review of Dermatology written by a patient
17th April 2018

Dr Heaton saw me promptly. He explained every part of his examination of my mole and talked through the details of his findings and the procedure that was needed to remove the mole. He found a surgery room immediately and described every part of the procedure. He involved my wife while explaining the necessary post-operative care. His manner and that of his able assistant was very reassuring. I could not have wanted for better treatment. Thank you.

Review of E8 written by a patient
15th April 2018

Having heard such negative views from the media when taken into QA I would like to say I was treated extremely well from the time I entered A&E who were so overworked with what appeared to be many people with social care needs rather than medical treatment. I was assessed quickly then moved to E7 for a few days then to a room in E8 for the remainder of my stay. At all times I was treated with kindness respect and monitored constantly. Even though the nurses were so busy they found time for a kind word when I was so low. The Consultant was very informative and answered all my questions. On leaving hospital all medication was ready for me together with appointments made for ongoing treatment with the Pulmonary Assessment Unit also physiotherapist and continuing visits to Respiratory Medicine. I would like to congratulate QA for such a joined up service. I have a lifelong health condition and moved to this area four years ago never have I felt more confident that I can get help when needed something which never happened in my previous county. Like most hospitals more money needs to be spent on equipment several pieces appeared not to be working wasting the nurses time while they found other working equipment. Why cannot more nurses be on the payroll rather than Agency nurses who do not have the same interest in the patient as “regular” staff and also are paid higher? Not good I feel for morale. All staff from every area of the hospital made my stay as comfortable as possible I will always be indebted to the wonderful NHS.

It was unfortunate that the restaurant was closed, presumably a Carillion problem.

Review of Rheumatology Clinic written by a patient
12th April 2018

The surgery was fantastic, the ladies behind the desk were very helpful. I was needing to know if the clinic was running behind or not in order to let my work know if I was going to be late. I appreciated that it can be very hard for them to say for sure but they said that as far as they knew it was but if anything changes they would let me know so I could call my work. As it transpires the clinic was pretty much running on time, only 5 or so minutes behind. The podiatrist was very caring and was able to tell me something about my limbs that I hadn’t been made aware of previously and has made a difference.

Review of Eye Outpatients written by a patient
11th April 2018

My appointment with the consultant today was a waste of my time, theirs and the NHS. The consultant informed me of the same diagnosis as my GP did six months ago. The consultant has now advised me that the procedure might not be funded by the NHS, but has still added me to the waiting list. I am now in limbo as to what to do, do I wait to be informed the procedure is not funded which will delay me in looking for alternative options. I am unfortunately unable to inform you who I saw as they did not introduce themselves.

Review of Eye Department (EED) written by a family member
10th April 2018

I was hear with my Father-in-law who is 92. We managed to get an emergency appointment the day before. Chris Sibson, was outstanding. She showed compassion and empathy and genuinely cared. She could understand how my Father-in-law was desperate for an appointment and she went above and beyond. With more people like Chris employed the NHS will be in a great place. I cannot thank her enough. I have been trying to get an appointment for my Father-in-law since the end of February and Chris listened and acted. Thank you Chris, and the whole emergency eye department who were exceptional.

Review of Emergency Department written by a patient

I was very impressed with the obvious team work and excellent working relationships between all staff. The food I found to be just right for me. Particular thanks to the people bringing teas and coffees around. My only adverse comment was that my allocated bed and 4 berth ward was to hot for me. No fault of the staff as two of the other patients were feeling the cold. End of February snow conditions. However a fan was very quickly found and all was well.

Review of Fast Access Chest Pain clinic written by a patient

Many questions are asked and it is possible to be caught off guard and forget or it could be a symptom that has 'crept up on us'; something that you remember at a later stage.Perhaps it is age and we are not as mentally agile, a little more time is needed. My suggestion is a small questionnaire; offered in paper and electronic form for us to complete before being seen.

Review of Oral and Maxillo Facial Surgery written by a patient
9th April 2018

I was advised to go to A&E after visiting my dentist to have a tooth repaired, following a fall the week before, as she suspected I had a fractured jaw. After visiting A&E I had X-rays and a nice young man from Max Fax came to talk to me after reviewing them. He was so kind, helpful and reassuring. I was dealt with after only a short delay and the treatment I received that day was second to none. I left with brackets, trauma bands, instructions on how to deal with them and an appointment for 2 weeks later. On every occasion I have attended the department since - for follow up appointments, I have never been dealt with by the same person. But that didn't detract from the care I was given. I was always told what was going to happen next, and why, and asked if that was ok. If I winced at any time during my treatment, they stopped what they were doing, apologised for the discomfort and always asked if I was ok and if they could continue. You often only hear about 'bad' treatment from the NHS, so it is nice to be given the opportunity to provide some positive feedback and to thank the staff for their care, and I cannot praise the staff who handled my treatment highly enough. Many thanks for your kindness and care.
