The care I received by the doctor was fantastic, he wasted no time in getting to the bottom of my symptoms and giving me remedies. The receptionist was absolutely lovely, she is kind, attentive and must have the patience of a saint! This lady definitely doesn’t have an easy job giving the recent stress of waiting times but she approaches it with class, professionalism and sensitivity, she’s truly one of a kind. My criticism would be the waiting times, especially when most of the patients do have appointments. I was finally seen 3 hours 30 minutes after my appointment time.

Suggested improvements
Now I know that you’re under a lot of pressure, underfunded and over worked, and I know there’s no magical way for you to fix this overnight. But I can’t help but wonder if there would be a way for you to Inform patients of the wait time before they enter the centre. For example an automated text service, like the one for the survey informing patients of their appointment time and the current waiting times, maybe offering them to check in online and come in person a certain amount of time before they would be seen. Also I did see a lot of people asking at reception to see how long it would be and a few people leaving which obviously creates more of a backlog, so maybe that could help with this.

It took nearly three hours in the telephone queue to speak to someone, was told I needed to be seen by a doctor within two hours but call back was five and a half hours later. I was then given an appointment for 5:30am the following morning.

Suggested improvements
Not keeping people queueing for a long time to speak to someone. Give a time for a call back. The doctor I saw at my appointment was very good

Overall care with good, dr was thorough however I did not appreciate the whole waiting room being told I was a patient with covid and everyone had to stand back. Very undignified and also a breach and patient confidentiality.

Suggested improvements
Be mindful of treating patients confidentially and with dignity and respect.

Unprofessional doctor that started the consultation by putting a sweet in his mouth. Minimal communication, I had to ask what the outcome of the chest auscultation was?! He gave me ABX and an inhaler with no explanation on how or when to use- luckily I’m a CNS so have the experience and knowledge but regardless communication needs to be better!

Suggested improvements
Train staff to communicate effectively and in a timely manner. Attended for a appt at 5 and no mention of them running behind, overheard receptionist then state 50 minutes late. From appt to being seen I waited 1h50 and the lady to the side of me who had also been referred through to UTC from 111 had an appt 30 mins later than mine but was seen before me?! Boiling hot waiting room with NO ventilation which doesn’t help in winter with multiple winter bugs circulating.

Despite being extremely busy, the staff were attentive and calm and took the time needed without rushing to assess reasons for the visit to the urgent treatment centre.

Suggested improvements
The waiting area could benefit from a vending machine for a hot drink/ cold drinks, as a 6hour wait without a drink (other than water from a communal jug) wasn’t good. We could have walked to another area of the hospital, but would have risked missing being called by the doctor.
