Having relocated to this area a number of years ago I came to this branch of Boots opticians expecting to get the same excellent service as before. During the 12 years I attended my previous optician, I always had excellent service, even when he transferred from a D&A franchise to Boots. However, at this branch, every time I’ve had an eye test and/ or ordered lenses it has been problematic. The staff are helpful and try their utmost to resolve the issues; but from my perspective there is a major issue with the ordering and delivery service, which seems to be out-with the control of the staff. Additionally, there is no consistency. At every appointment I have seen a different optometrist for eye tests/ checks and have often had to challenge and ask about my prescription. On only one occasion did I have confidence in the optometrist (Neil). There is something lacking in their ability to communicate effectively and have a discussion with the customer. I have now had enough and have decided that I will go to an independent optician in the future. I believe it is a system failure.

The staff are all very friendly, although one of two could also do with being helpful. The range of styles of glasses seem to have reduced but as I've not liked elsewhere then this could just be confirming to current trends.

Occasionally there's a long wait at reception if the staff are taken up with other people

When choosing my spectacles I was completely overwhelmed by the huge choice of styles and Claire helped me to narrow the choice down to what suited me, what I liked and what I could afford.

There has been a noticeable change at Boots Opticians, Dumfries unfortunately. Although the Optometrist is pleasant I left my appointment feeling very disappointed. I was told my lens supplier was to change and given a pair of lenses to try. My usual monthly supply had not arrived and I had thought they might be at the shop, but they weren't. There was no one there to help, as my account is on the, now very old, D&A system (which surely all your D&A customers need to be migrated over to the Boots system by now; after at least a dozen years) I tried ringing the contact lens number on Saturday afternoon and again today several times. I held for at least 5 + minutes for each call and there was no answer. I tried the website to log in, but it did not recognise my password. Despite changing it I still cannot log in. What has happened Boots? After all these years with Boots, I have made an appointment with another Opticians to see if I get better service.

From beginning the end everyone were so helpful. We made three visits for four pair of glasses and we were looked after mainly by Claire and also Andy. Both so helpful and cheerful.
