Review of Queen’s - Accident & Emergency
6th August 2024

The poor staff were rushed off their feet. Under staffed. Needing breaks. They didn’t have time to explain anything , or why they were doing things. There were patients angry and arguing with them. After waiting hours, I asked the head staff if my results would be sent to my GP , he said they would !! So I said I wanted to discharge myself. I was so tired , aching , and scared of catching something, from the patients coughing and spluttering around me. I saw my GP first thing Monday. No results. He lied.

Suggested improvements
I didn’t like being treated while sitting in the A&E department!! I had to share a drip stand while sitting on uncomfortable chair ! It was chaos. More privacy is required, more staff

I felt that I received excellent care, and treatment.

A&E waiting time is diabolical and the communication is appaling. As I was referred with a GPS letter and needed a catheter fitted ASAP I waited 12 hours. Once I was transfered out of A&E the staff on the wards I attended were lovely and attentive. Although my discharge was very disorganised and very late.

Suggested improvements
A&E needs organising and prioritising. The staff are getting moaned at for doing there job which is very unfair on them. It could be organised so much better.

On reaching the A&E department, I waited for sometime where I begun to experience signs of syncope. I managed to muster all my strength before getting up. I then beckoned to a staff member that I was on the verge of collapsing. I physically took myself to a trolley where I collapsed.

Suggested improvements
I am embarrassed to say I have dedicated myself to working in this establishment and the treatment I encountered was not one that I expected. There was a phlebotomist who screamed at the porter in the presence of other patients because he had accidentally brought me into a cubicle where another patient was waiting to be cannulated. Unfortunately because I did not have a pink cannula in place on arrival to the radiology department the porter was rudely told by the radiologist to take me back to A&E. I appreciate the fact that A&E is quite a stressful place to work but professionalism and diplomacy is paramount when looking after patients. On a whole the majority of staff were diamonds. Beautiful people.

My initial admission was done with ease the receptionist was extremely helpful the next nurse who took my pulse etc again was helpful as were all the other departments ecg blood tests etc this was all completed in a couple of hours then I went to the waiting room for my results sitting on very uncomfortable chairs I had chest pains and needed to lay down when there were empty seats I spread out however every time I did this a nurse would come over and take my temperature and blood pressure this was done so many times I asked for some pain medication which took 3.5 hours to come I was given a blanket and cleared a space in the corner away from everyone and layed on the floor as this was the only way I could get comfortable again the same nurse came in asked me to get of the floor she wanted to do another blood pressure test again for probably the 9 th time I refused to move as after 10 hours of waiting I needed some comfort as previously mentioned I needed to layed flat I did explain this hours before not sure if this prompted the staff especially after one man said to them this is scandalous he’s 73 and he needs to lay down I was then moved into a room where there were multiple chairs and beds I question why wasn’t I offered this on closing I spent 13 hours in a hospital which needs better facilities

Just not told anything about what’s happening next told to sit and then get forgotten.

Suggested improvements
In A&E why do patients have to walk along outside to then walk back down the corridor to book in then walk back down the corridor to be seen I saw a lot of elderly struggling to walk it seems pointless surely get them seen in one place .

Review of Sahara Ward B
2nd August 2024

Another great service from Queens today. Visit to receive results from recent Neurological procedure with consultant Mr Jamjoom. Mr Jamjoom explained in a clear and concise manner that I was able to understand and I am forever grateful to all the staff at Queens Hospital for making my recent stay more than merely tolerable….. I could not fault a thing. I must also mention All staff working on Ward Sahara B who were caring - professional and above all friendly….. a heartfelt thank you from me. I feel very lucky to have received such care.

Suggested improvements
See above….. perfectly acceptable care at all times was my experience.
