We had been waiting to be seen 2hours.To be told there would be a long wait to see nurse and doctor.i understand that they were busy told to ring gp in the morning. I was sick no bowl provided my partner had to get till from the toilet. A lady mopped the floor no spray or disinfectant spray COVID pandemic. Totally disappointed and upset Better communication between staff and patients needed.no compassion
I arrived in a&e after being instructed to go there by 111 service, I arrived in totally and complete agony in tears. I sat down to be told I should go home and wait for my own doctors to open as I would be waiting 6 and half hours. I was in so much pain I could not wait and needed help, I stayed in a&e and ended up on the floor in tears from my pain and no one came to help me or check on me!
Once I had got back to sit on a chair I didn’t know how much time had passed that I was on the floor I was seen by 3 nurses while I was crying explaining my pain was told to “we can’t help you if your crying” I was then given pain relief and told to go home with out being monitored and to go see my own doctor. I have fibromyalgia a chronic pain condition, I experience flare ups of pain regular but this pain was like nothing I have had before let alone seek emergency medical help.
Whether it was deemed as an emergency or not I was advised to go there by 111, I myself believed it was urgent when I was in so much pain I could touch my own skin without crying or screaming in pain and no other pain relief I had tried was even coming close to helping me
The night started off by me ringing 111, after a Dr phoned back they advised I needed to take my son to A&E. They gave me a time of 7-7.15pm to arrive. When I got there I was informed they don't bother with times and I needed to join the back of the queue. This was back to the main entrance outside of the department. No seats were provided apart from one at the front of the queue. We had to wait 2 hours just to get into the department to give my sons details. We then had to wait another 2 hours to be seen by triage. During this time there was a man with covid symptoms in the same waiting area, he was coughing, had a high temp and struggling to breathe. He then passed out. I didn't want my son to see this so I quickly sat him on the floor so the cubicle side could block his view. It was at this point I realised we were surrounded by dried blood and I had sat my son in it. When we went in the room to see the triage nurse, again the floor was covered in blood and there was plastic coverings from keeping equipment sterile all over the floor. I also dropped my bank card and noticed all the dust and dirt around the desk. When my son was seen by a Dr, the room we were taken into was in a similar state to the first. Overall we were there over 5 hours and for the duration I felt like I was placing myself and son at further risk of harm and illness than if I had nor sought medical advice.
Absolutely horrific hospital. It was not the NHS standard that they should take pride in. More like an underdeveloped country. They had absolutely no duty of care or respect. I will NEVER go there again no matter the cost.
I was happy with the experience especially with doctor B in the fracture clinic, I however was made to feel uncomfortable and like a nuisance in the X-ray ward which upset me. Doctor sent me for an X-ray on my toe as it suspected to have broken it and the bruising had started on my foot too. I was told by 3 members of staff in the X-ray room that i shouldn’t be there and they don’t X-ray toes and they was all stood talking abruptly with me in the room, Jonas walked me back to the fracture clinic to tell them they wouldn’t X-ray a toe. Doctor B was not happy with this and sent me back so had to walk back and then the X-ray staff said had a bad attitude that they had to do the X-ray and again said they shouldn’t be doing it. I expressed my view to the doctor after I had the X-ray and he reassured me that nothing was my fault and he’s the doctor and he gets the say etc. But I left that X-ray room feeling embarrassed, a waste of time and a burden essentially.
Because I was treated well
Looked after quickly and with care even though department was very full. Sent for x-ray and dealt with as soon as I returned to the department.
I was so worried when I came into a and e with a very rapid heartbeat I was seen fast and kept calm while I was treated
I was man handled twice by two different people. I was in my wheelchair without permission they moved me twice. This was administrative staff. Then they where rude as they realised I could talk and wasn’t an idiot .I had to shout at them to get off me. I was left distressed an upset. They should have more training with disabilities and hidden. I was told to take a seat how ironic where did she want me to take it. As I found this offensive.
The nurse I saw and the nurses she referred me to was brilliant. Very pleasant and professional in what seemed to be an endless task. The constant stream of people was unbelievable, I think its the only time in the last 10 years I’ve been in and it was awfully busy. I wouldn’t have gone if I could have seen my go and I had checked with a pharmacist. The improvements being carried out are not helping the situation as the waiting is not clear. An update on the wall to explain waiting times would be good
