Once I had reached booking in , which was a 2 hour standing wait in the cold firstly, outside and then in a very cold waiting area inside. The booking in staff were very efficient and once I sat in the waiting area it was warmer and a comfortable warm place to sit. Once assessed and moving on to the nurse practitioner things progressed very fast. No complaints there. I do think the staff were very firm with those who tried to jump the queue and commend them for that as I do appreciate they have a difficult task normally but more so since Covid. Well done to all.

Suggested improvements
I think there could have been a few chairs available in the outer waiting are, not outside as I don’t think that would be practicable as they would soon go walkies. I know they were busy in the department and I was prepared for a long wait.

Cannot fault anyone who cared for me. It was second to none and made my experience really positive!

Suggested improvements
In my circumstance I had an ivf baby and used donor sperm. Midwives hadn't looked at my notes and came in telling me I need contraception whilst my husband is present. I kept saying no I don't (not to go into it and make it awkward for my husband who has had surgery to confirm he will never have children) So I would say staff need to read people's notes properly before they go into a room to know their circumstances as it was just very uncomfortable and happened on more than one occasion.

I am very happy with the treatment and care we received. The nurses and staff were very helpful and caring. I understand that it was a very busy time. When I asked for some paracetamol, the doctor at the desk asked a nurse straight away to get my son some paracetamol. Once seen, the doctors and staff involved in my son's treatment were very helpful and made sure I understood what was happening.

Suggested improvements
The only thing that frustrated me as a parent was our wait to be seen by a doctor whilst being in a&e. It was over 2h30. I was told by GP out of hours to get to a&e ASAP as my son might have appendicitis. I understand that it was very busy. As a parent it is already worrying when your child is poorly and in pain. The most frustrating thing was seeing people coming and going with minor injuries, such as a cut, before my son was even seen.

Was left for long periods, distressing seeing patient across from me writhering in pain, buzzer going for 15min aprox before being seen to and still another 30 minutes before he got.pain relief 1st dr not welcoming, lacked compassion, didnt tell me what they were considering. Not offered a drink for over 3hrs bp dropped from 125 aprox to 95 systolic and i questioned why i coukdnt drink HCA said i was having a CT scan so coukdnt drinn however nurse then came and said i could have a drink and i wasnt having a ct scan. A lot of mis-communication and not involving the patient

Suggested improvements
Better communication, more compassionate bed side manner, more timely answerimg of bells of those in need

My daughter had a seizure and because she was stable when we arrived via ambulance we was dumped in a&e for 6 bloody hours half past 12 at night and we didn't leave until 6am being left in the waiting room all night, no drinks and it was freezing, not only did we sit for hours by the time my daughter got seen we were with a doctor all of 5 minutes before the sent us away with a referral, not good enough somebody could have sent us home hours ago by telling us that they didn't even examine her I am utterly disgusted with how she has been treated or should I say lack of treatment. To top it off it is now 4 days after the seizure and we have had no appointment no phone call nothing.

Suggested improvements
Waiting time could be less there was no more than 10 people in that Waiting room so you couldn't even say it was busy. Check in with patients I'm in a&e for a reason.

Called 111 when they spoken with doctor they arranged ambulance which would of been couple of hours which was not problem when I received call from ambulance service they said up to 8 hours she said may be better getting some one to take me I asked by doing this would I of been seen sooner said yes .when got to hosptial had to stand out side for hour in pain crying .when I got booked n at after half 9 from being there at half 7 then had to wait further time of 12 midnite only to be told I would not see doctor for other 6 hours which would take time of 6 in morning discussing waiting in pain .so I had to wall out in pain .would of rather waited 8 hours in comfort of my own home think this is discussing as I followed right thing by ringing my own gp then 111

Suggested improvements

The staff on reception where rude There are notices in a&e saying that “you said” need information regarding wait times. “We did” stated that they had information screens updating patients - no screens where on and people where not seen in order of attendance. Someone who worked at hospital cane in with son 1 hour after myself and got pushed to the top of the list. I was in a&e for 3 hrs and the amount of people in and out was cast and at no point where chairs wiped, toilets cleaned. I attended a toilet in X-ray department and had to get key to use and there was absolutely no soap no hand gel no hand disinfectant what so ever. I find this absolutely disgusting as we have been in a pandemic for the last 15 mo this and that is just basic hygiene no wonder grimsby hospital is I special measures it is disgusting. Myself and another family member have complained about the same nurse in a&e for her attitude and you should not be front line staff in the nhs if you cannot be polite or have empathy with patients coming in to a&e in pain.

Suggested improvements
Attitude of staff put them on nlag communications training course. Cleanliness within the hospital. The right care for patients. Keep a&e patients updated with wait times on screens that are all over grimsby a&e and not turned on.
