I was referred to Mr Barod following an Incidental Kidney Cancer find. This came as a complete shock, and how grateful I am to have been seen by Mr Barod. His warmth and kindness was clear straight away, even through the virtual initial consultation. He took the time to explain everything to me and my family - even the options which he didn’t subsequently recommend in order that I had a good understanding of the pathways and the best way to proceed. Details of my Cancer from my initial Urology referral were a little unclear as it all happened very quickly, however he took the time to clarify everything and add additional context where needed. He explained the plan and the steps within and was able to offer me a cancellation at short notice at King Edward VII hospital, for which I was very grateful. Not having had surgery before, I was incredibly nervous on the day - however he was able to calm me down upon meeting before the operation. He explained exactly what would happen - including the backup plan should my associated complications go on cause any issues. Mr Barod successful completed a Robotically Assisted Laparoscopic Partial Nephrectomy to a Horseshoe Kidney with an abnormal number of arteries. He personally rang my family after the operation to tell them the outcome and that I was in recovery. He also visited me in recovery before leaving to tell me the same. He visited early the next morning to check on me and explain again how the surgery went and to discuss my post operative blood results. A follow up consultation was planned with Mr Barod to go through my Histopathology results. Again he took the time to explain them very clearly and what it meant in real terms. He also took the time to answer any questions I or my family had. I required some paperwork to be completed in order for me to return to work - Mr Barod explained early on that he had deal with the CAA paperwork requirements before and would be happy to complete this for me - which he did, and the CAA did not require any further details from him. Thank you Mr Barod for your warmth, kindness and ultimately your skill - I’m forever in your debt.

Mr Barod explained everything so clearly and thoroughly from my initial telephone consultation through to my first follow-up appointment after surgery. His professional yet compassionate manner reassured me at every stage and that eased my anxiety throughout the process.

This surgeon, Dr Ravi Barod, is, in my opinion, the best renal surgeon in this country. He gave me hope when all seemed lost. I was told I had terminal cancer and could only be offered palliative care, in effect my life was over.I researched and found Mr Barod a renal surgeon working at the Royal Free Hospital in London. From the start I was impressed by his extensive experience and skillset but more importantly the kindness and humanity he showed me- I'm crying as I write this. This surgeon and his team were so utterly brilliant I am lost for words. I was referred to the wonderful Dr Karra, an endocrinologist who is clinically brilliant and a correct diagnosis was made. I had complex surgery and without a doubt my life was saved. It could have been a different story, but if my condition was terminal, honestly, I would want this team to care for me. In my opinion, The Royal Free Hospital is the flagship for patient care in this country. Thank you, everyone in every department was professional, efficient, from phlebotomy to medical records, a special thank you to the aneasthesia team and all on the High Dependency Unit. I am in awe of their dedication. There is not one thing I can suggest that could be improved. Not one.

I was recently treated by Mr Ravi Barod for a tumour on my kidney. I consulted Mr Barod for a second opinion and am so glad I did! Mr Barod's approach was very empathetic and understanding - he listened to all my concerns and symptoms and didn't dismiss them - which I greatly appreciated. I felt he was caring and considerate, taking the time to personally inform my family that I was well after the surgery. For the surgery, I felt in extremely competent hands and am really happy with the outcome and recovery. This is thanks to his expertise and highly skilled ability. I highly recommend him and am so glad he was my consultant!
