Response from St Mary's Hospital

Thank you for your feedback. There is a therapy programme that runs across the week including some sessions over the weekend. There is a range of games, puzzle books and arts and crafts available in the activity room and a small collecting in the quiet lounge. These can be freely accessed at any time. The therapy programme and activities are continually reviewed and suggestions welcomed.

Not given a lot of information about discharge until the day and couldn't talk to the doctor. No vegan food.

Response from St Mary's Hospital

Thank you for your feedback, I'm sorry to hear that this was your experience. The Team offers opportunities to complete ward round planning sheets and provide 1-1's after ward rounds to review any questions or queries you may have. Usually expected discharge date is discussed quite early on in a person’s admission and the care plan goals reflect this. I will remind keyworkers to ensure they discuss approaching discharges more frequently during 1-1's. I will pass on your feedback regarding the food to the hotel services team.

This should not have happened, so I am really sorry. I have passed your comment to the service manager for fuller explanation. Best wishes, Hugh Jones, Patient Experience Manager

Review of Sandpiper Ward
22nd June 2022

I have had the most helpful time being in hospital. Sandpiper Ward have excellent staff and it would be too hard to recognise every person who helps, but they haven't just looked at my diagnosis but at me as a person. I felt very safe with the nurses. It takes a very strong caring person to do this work. The staff are non-judging, helpful and have gone above and beyond so may times.

Suggested improvements
More intervention in so far as suggesting games etc.

Review of ARMS Team
21st June 2022

All the staff were friendly and i had no issues with anyone.

Suggested improvements
In some sessions i noticed some of the support sounded like it was words coming out of a book that has been studied which i understand but more in-depth experience based support may be needed for some (I'm not sure how to explain that better). Some more focus on the importance of how food has a direct link to how our mind can operate may be an important thing to focus on and the importance of what we consume into our mind like the music we listen to or the TV programmes and movies we watch and what words are going into our minds, and how those words influence the state our mind is in. Overall everything was good and i received a lot of reminders on how to keep on top of things which have helped me organise my mind a little more.

Review of Spinney Ward
19th June 2022

The staff was very friendly and helpful I have enjoyed the activities and the company of the staff and some of the patients.

Suggested improvements
Not every member of staff knocked on my door before coming in. It would be good if they knocked first.

Response from St Mary's Hospital

We apologise for your experience whilst on Spinney ward. This is not our usual standard and staff are aware for privacy and dignity purposes for our patients that they should knock the door before entering. We have prompt reminders on each bedroom door and we will remind staff within the team meeting of the importance of this.
