Review of Queen’s - Accident & Emergency
7th November 2023

It was all very positive. The staff were incredibly busy and managed to juggle a lot in the time I was there. Time management is a difficult one as how to make it more efficient? I waited for someone to look at an x-ray for 3 hours although I wasn't a priority as I wasn't in any danger, the x-ray I believe was for just in case, however, I could have been gone and out of their way a lot earlier.

Suggested improvements
The care was great. No-one can help being busy, just the timings were long.

The system the understaffed nurses work under is awful. They have to spend more time on computer screens and paperwork than on patient care. I got lost from their system mid-way between departments. Had no idea who my doctor was and saw different nurses day to day.

Suggested improvements
Scrap the current system and release the reduced number of staff doing paperwork so they can deal better with patients. I was made to feel like a nuisance rather than a cared for patient.

I was treated with the utmost respect.

Suggested improvements
The wait time was ridiculous, I spent over 12 hours in A&E, of which about 2 hours only was for tests, consultations and care. The wait times are far too long.

The nursing team/hca's were fantastic! They treated my mum with care and respect.

Suggested improvements
Communication between members of staff could be better. Sometimes the nurses didn't know what the consultants agreed on and were giving us the wrong info. But this was quickly identified and fixed

From start to now the only members of staff that was good and compassionate was the ambulance staff. From the moment they handed over to the hospital the treatment and onward treatment is extremely poor, the communication from doctors and nurses to GP staff is extremely poor that they also lied about any info they did give. I’m still waiting for a phone call from the doctors as to what’s is actually wrong with me and what onward treatment I should have.

Suggested improvements
Stop with all the lies. Deal with each patient correctly. Don’t put blame from one department to another as in it’s not my job. Actually have an order of when patients arrive. Even hand out a number to each patient and cross off as you go. Have more staff on. Don’t keep moving patients about and loosing track of where they are. Have the staff read the notes and understand the patient issue. And don’t do part of a job. Complete one patient at a time.

Review of Colposcopy Department

Both Charlotte the CNS nurse and Lauren the RN made me feel so at ease and killed any nerves I may have had. They made a worrying, nervous experience very easy and totally put me at ease instantly with lots of communication and kindness. Excellent service.

Suggested improvements
Nothing to change, a very punctual and smoothly run service.
