Review of Doncaster Urgent Treatment Centre
14th March 2022

The team were absolutely excellent snd the environment was really calm and quiet. The staff were very professional, patient and gave me time to express how I felt. The time element from start to finish was exceptionally quick and they referred myself to be seen by the emergency ophthalmologist. I was feeling really ill with facial pain as a result of shingles around my eye area and the staff showed a great deal of empathy and compassion towards myself and allowed my daughter to speak for myself as preferred when I was not able to as a result of the pain.

Suggested improvements
The team could not have done anything better. The only negative is that none of the separate departments share the same system so that all information can be accessed in order to be-able to provide up to date communication and prescribed medication. This would provide fluidity between the vast departments within the hospital and better protect patients and staff alike. As my daughter had to update each individual with the necessary information. But this may be down to financial cost of implementing these systems. It maybe something that they will implement in time.

You could text people to tell them you're running behind so they can put extra time on the parking meter

Review of Doncaster Urgent Treatment Centre
1st March 2022

I had rang the 111 service which had booked me an appointment and the urgent care centre. I wasn’t seen for half hour after my appointment. I was seen and was told she thinks it’s a viral infection and muscular pain. I was given a prescription but couldn’t collect until the morning as they didn’t have the medication at the hospital despite me being in pain to which I was crying about. I was sent off on my way home. The following morning I was contacted by a manager who had then said to me that the nurse I had seen the night before had gone home and reflected on why I had been in. The woman on the phone then explained that the nurse I had seen had decided that I needed to be checked for a possible blood clot on my lungs. I was then booked in at a department within the hospital to be seen. Why this hadn’t been done the night before had not been answered. This is not acceptable and not very good care. This does not put my trust within the nhs as then my health was at risk. If anything would of happened over night who would of been to blame. When I returned to the hospital tests were carried out and I was told a different diagnosis. Overall not very happy with the service.

The nurse practitioner that I had seen should of carried out all of the tests that she was meant to of done instead of fobbing me off with a viral infection. I asked the receptionist to sit in the corridor as I had been in shielding due to covid and felt that the waiting room to be very full. I was very happy with her facilitating a chair in the corridor and to go the extra mile to make me feel comfortable.

Suggested improvements
I was given an appointment time but when I turned up at the hospital I had to wait 4 hours above my allocated time. This appointment was at 1.45 am in the morning so I had been up a long time without sleep. I’m OK with the fact that only one Doctor was on but perhaps the appointments could be worked out more accurately.
