Review of Doncaster Urgent Treatment Centre

Even though we are in the middle of the pandemic, I was seen in a timely manner and the doctor was very helpful, he provided me with a treatment that has worked perfectly.

Suggested improvements
It would have been helpful to not have to wait in the waiting room of the UTC, I was given an appointment by 111 but still waited for around 90 mins. This was not an issue, as I know it was much quicker than if I had gone into a & e.

I was not seen, my appointment was for 3 pm, I was greeted by reception saying I wouldn't be seen till a least 5 pm or later, so I went home.

Suggested improvements
I would have helped had I been told on the phone that there was a least a 2 to 4 hour delay, I would have stayed home in comfort, instead of travelling to and fro from hospital in very serious pain and discomfort!!

The initial nurse who saw me in A and E was rude, questioned whether I was actually unwell and argued that I was not actually short of breath because I wa taking. Not knowing me she would not know I was talking quietly. She was very rude

Suggested improvements
More information and updates on progress and more patient feedback It does help when 4 professionals assess you and 3 give one answer and the senior gives another and 2 weeks later I am still in pain

I do not have any long standing illnesses

Suggested improvements
Waiting area was very full and very hot- not a good mix when people are ill. Was waiting for a receptionist to check me in for over 15 minutes, no staff in sight. Was given a specific time to arrive& then had to wait for over 40 minutes to be seen.

Wasnt given the full treatment, sat for 6hrs on a floor due to no seating, asked to get my notes when it wasnt my job, no person centred care, spoke to rudely.

Suggested improvements
Could of treated with respect, listened when told symptoms instead of assuming and passing me off, no scans no xrays, no bloods... absolutely nothing apart from and ECG.

My son was ambulaced into hospital as he had passed out, we got to hospital and we got made to sit in a waiting room for 4 hours he was then made to drink water and then sent home. No test blood work 2 days later je was back at the doctors amd on antibiotics as he had an infection

Suggested improvements
I understand your busy and you have a lot to deal with but some sort of clock or someone giving you a estimated wait time! With a 2 year old not just thrown in a room to wait for 4 hours is inappropriate

The Nurse & trainee Nurse who dealt with me were absolutely brilliant, very efficient & explained everything that would happen. 5* Treatment Where I feel the service let me down, was after i'd been seen, there was a new receptionist as well as the previous one & they failed to get hold of a porter to take me to SDEC, so I was left sat back in reception for a while. It was only when one of the Nurses came thru reception & noticed me sat there still that she went and got a wheelchair herself & took me over to the womens hospital herself. It would appear that communication between depts is very poor. I understand the pressures of the NHS are extremely difficult for everyone at the moment & surely there needs to be more daily staff cover to relieve the pressures & stress for staff. Another observation whilst awaiting my appt, sat in the reception area, alot of patients were coming to the dept wrongly, they had been told to go there by 111 but they were actually in the wrong place, this is frustrating for the already poorly patients & NHS staff alike. There were about half a dozen cases like this in the 2 hrs I was sat there! 1* treatment Smoking is another issue & in my mind if patients are well enough to go outside for a smoke they really can't be that poorly at all & should automatically go back to the bottom of the queue if they cannot stay in the waiting room & wait for their appt like everyone else.

Whilst the staff in urgent care were brilliant, the receptionist in A&E was extremely rude and upset me with her attitude.

Suggested improvements
Have more staff in urgent care. Waiting six and a half hours for a prescription when struggling to breathe is not fun.
