I wasn't aware that I could be part of decisions. I just thought that doctor's and nurses make the decisions as they know what to do whereas I wouldn't know what would be in my best interests, hence why there is a lot of trust placed upon staff from patients. You're seen by one person then back in the waiting room, back to see another person then back in the waiting room and so on. You're not told how long you need to wait between them. There's a lot of waiting, and for someone with a bad hip those chairs are not comfortable at all. You are kept informed about what procedures they plan for you such as blood tests, ECG's, X-Ray's just not when you're going to get them. It might be 10 mins or 10 hours there's just no way of knowing. What do you mean "Did I feel safe in their care?" Do you mean safe in the waiting room with two separate lots of police with cuffed prisoners, or a room full of waiting patients, and one kicking off cos he couldn't get what he wants? Or did you mean I felt safe with staff? Or safe in they know what they're doing? This occasion made me realise that staff are protected behind screens or locked doors but waiting patients would be at the mercy of security if something got serious. I think the staff are amazing if they have to tolerate that night in day after day. They're all saints and yes of course I felt safe with them. As for food and drinks, none were provided. I was there from 11.30 pm till 6.30 am the following day. Not once was I offered a drink. The only water I had was to take medication. There is no drinks vending machine. The vending machine was empty of food and nothing in there for people with other dietary needs. On top of this not everyone can use vending machines. As someone with limited mobility. I cannot bend down to reach if vending machines dispense at the bottom. More modern vending machines dispense st the side which is easier for people like me. A bit of thought needs to go into this please. I think at the very least I should have been offered water. The whole of the A&E department looked clean, and there were frequent cleaners coming down sweeping, wiping surfaces etc. All of the staff that I dealt with treated me with dignity, compassion, respect and kindness.

Suggested improvements
The bit that frustrated me on this occasion was the fact that I had to come back three times for my prescription. Each time it was filled out incorrectly which was concerning. The other thing that could be done better is to offer drinks to patients, and food if they've been there for several hours. Dnt rely on a vending machine being present, not everyone has money, and some of us cnt use then.

Told to go to A and E by 111 for 14.15 in afternoon after mistaking dog’s medication for mine, took medication at 10 o’clock in morning, got to hospital, registered, then told to wait , waited until 15.30 noticed patients who came in long after me with less serious issues, ie: nose bleed, splinter in finger, being sick, being seen to first, went back to desk at 16.30 to enquire when I was being seen , was told : sorry don’t seem to have you on list to be seen , then receptionist asked colleagues if they had registered me , they hadn’t but remembered me registering due to us sharing a joke about me taking dog’s medicine, waited another 30 mins then finally got seen , to be told I should be okay because it was now 7 hours since I took the dogs meds and if I was going to be I’ll it would have happened in the 4 hour window of me taking them !

Suggested improvements
Made sure I was registered in first place , and realised how long I had been sat there ,

I have my answer to the fact the nurses did not listen to me in any way, someone must’ve twisted whag I had said because there was nothing going on with my mental Heath and they have decided to contact social services for no reason which I am absolutely disgusted in. Not one of the doctors or nurses had any sort of respect for me. I felt they was very rude. Also my partner heard them say oh not another drunk. How can people decide to work at a hospital and get away with talking about people behind their backs? Im so appalled it’s absolutely ridiculous. They’ve got all false information and didn’t bother to let me explain everything they just went off whag they was thinking. I just cannot believe this. They really have made me think twice about ever coming to this hospital again.

I was treated on a busy Saturday night in A&E. lovely staff and paramedics. I was checked over thoroughly and sent home. Thank you.

Suggested improvements
Nothing more could have been done. I was looked after very well. I was offered refreshments, but declined, but my son was offered a drink. Pleasant surroundings and privacy when needed.

Staff were rude, dismissive and did not appear to care. Waited over three hours for observations to be taken by which point most of my symptoms had started to decrease. Was informed to wait to see my Gp on Monday, when visiting on a Friday evening, despite being sent to A&E by Gp out of hours. Saw GP on Monday who advised there was no notes from the doctor who saw me on the Friday and he had expected there to be photos of the swelling I was experiencing.

Suggested improvements
Care and compassion, observations taken soon after arrival to get a clear understanding of the immediate situation not over 3 hours after arrival.

It was the fastest treatment I have ever experienced at a hospital. The staff over performed my expectations.

Arrived in A&E after being knocked down by a taxi while out walking. Spent 13 hours in a cubicle with no food or water. I was put on several drips, one of which was blocked ,and was told by staff that only the registered nurses knew how to do it and there was only one on that day in A & E. Wasn't sorted for 11 hours! The doctors and registered nurse and a student nurse were brilliant. Rest of staff were rude and appalling in there attitudes. Only one porter to take me to xrays and ct scan. He was horrible and made me feel like a nuisance. He had pink spiky hair and was complaining about taking me to x-ray 3 times. I was totally intimidated by him. He's in the wrong Job. Unqualified nurses had no sympathy at all, and clearly moaned all the time. I was in a great deal of pain, had head and leg injuries and a fracture in my spine. I would never go back again. Did you know they put pieces of polystyrene around your head with cellotape or x-ray dept won't see you! At one stage nobody had a thermometer to test my temperature, but they weren't bothered. I wouldn't believe it if somebody else told me.at midnight I was sent to x-ray depth again. Thankfully a different porter on shift who was wonderful and gave me a blanket. However the night staff in x-ray didn't know what I needed xraying and the guy seemed annoyed I was there. Absolutely ashamed to call it my hospital and would rather die than go back. You could tell the doctor was frustrated as well.

Suggested improvements
Staffs attitudes need changing. Proper equipment available. People needed with natural compassion to work in the job. Not people who just want to come and earn a wage. Criminals are treated better and faster than others. That's appalling. Proper equipment to be available, and good old fashioned qualified nurses like there used to be. I think even Florence nightingale would turn in her grave!
