Had a baby recently and found the care from midwives very poor with zero compassion towards myself. Midwives had extremely poor listening skills, The midwives had an overwhelming feeling that they were superior to there service user, which created an unpleasant interaction. The majority of them had a culture of concrete thinking, an were not flexible to listening to the mother’s concerns , poor attitude an a lack of empathy was very disheartening. Room was unclean, very dusty.

Suggested improvements
Everything, the stay in hospital was not enjoyable and very challenging at times

The high scores are for the man who called me and assessed my ankle, very personable, caring and considerate.

Main reception at A&E was appalling. Waited to be called over, believed a raised arm was a beckoning to be told I wasn't called over, did I not see the sign. Then told to speak up into the speaker....I was very clear & loud enough, felt like this was a punishment for walking to reception when I hadn't been called (even though I believed I had). Borderline rude lady who took my details. This happened to everyone who walked in without being told to come forward. Lady at reception was not compassionate to anyone, lady who's husband had been taken in dying of cancer was told to leave, she had to explain herself several times to get through to them. People were sent away if they were not the ones needing medical attention....their partner has collapsed in the corridor and couldn't move. He needed help and instead the lady was abruptly told he needed to be there with her!...so send help there were 4 sat in the booth and not one moved to help. Children who came received the Care and attention I believe everyone should have when walking in.

Don’t quite understand what you are meaning re timely information in one of the questions. When going into A&E. we are expected to stand quite a distance from the check in desk. We wait until we are called forward. But it’s very difficult to hear the staff call you as they have a screen in front of them . I think some sort of intercom asking you to walk forward would be much better

Suggested improvements
I think it would be nice if there was some sort of vending machine where you could get bottles of drink and maybe some snacks . As at the moment no one is allowed to be in A&E with you so you can’t ask your chaperone to get something for you . Whilst the cafe is quite close , it’s not in A&E and so you don’t want to go to the cafe as you don’t want to miss your name being called. That said I found the waiting area nice and quiet as it wasn’t full of family or friends sitting with the person who needed treatment. I have been in the past and It’s been so noisy as the whole family turn up to be with the person needing treatment. . When you are feeling under the weather the last thing you need to deal with are other peoples noisy relatives. Some staff call you but they stand far too far away and are not clear. It would be helpful if they stood in the waiting area and called you

The reception staff with the exception of the male practitioner nurse were rude and unhelpful I was on my own in a wheel chair and if it hadn’t been for someone I knew who was also waiting in reception I wouldn’t have got to the toilet They were also very rude when I asked how much longer I might be waiting as I’d been there nearly 4 hours and hadn’t even been triaged ( I never was actually) They definitely have the wrong attitude to be doing the job they are doing Once I was seen by a consultant things did improve and I was treated with concern and respect inspite of having to wait a long time for a final diagnosis and being transferred to Hull Royal Infirmary

Suggested improvements
A more polite and caring attitude by the reception staff and a check on those patients alone and in a wheel chair to ensure they were alright whilst waiting for triage or to see the doctor Covid restrictions prohibit anyone remaining with a patient unless they are a Carer

Mostly. The receptionist who was there when I arrived wasn’t very helpful. She was abrupt and not very nice in my opinion.

Suggested improvements
After my arrival I had to wait seven and a half hours to see a Doctor. I do not think this good at all.

Reception Staff very cold and unhelpful. Long wait for triage and no staff ensuring patients are reassured and comfortable. Once through triage there was an improvement in compassion. Waited 3 hours for x-ray and only sent when challenged staff about the delay. Dr wanted a CT scan done but the registrar interpreted the X-Ray as CT not required and diagnosed a manual solution to the problem.

Suggested improvements
Better reception manner and a dedicated staff member to reassure and help all patients waiting in triage.

The reception staff were extremely rude to all patients, they lacked patience and sympathy and every question seemed a problem to them. The booths that we were made to sit in were very dirty, it looked like the floors hadn’t been cleaned for several weeks. Once admitted to the fracture clinic the experience was very smooth, pleasant and the doctor was very good.

Suggested improvements
Give the Reception staff some happy pills
