Not only are you treated as an individual with specific and unique needs, you are always treated with respect, empathy and kindness by every member of the team. Most importantly I felt safe.

I have had two different members of staff so far in my counselling and had different experiences with each. For the questions whether I was treated with dignity and respect and whether I was treated with compassion and kindness varied. For one, the consulting psychiatrist, I personally felt this was not the case and would have rated them 2 stars based on how they verbally responded to the issues I presented them with during my intial consultation. I will say however that when summarising what I had told them at the end of the session they demonstrated much more understanding than they had shown during the session and I felt that all the issues I raised were represented in the course of action they prescribed. For the other, the nutritional therapist, it was an entirely positive experience which I would rate either 4 or 5 stars. I felt listened to and that the opinions I gave of my own issues were seen as valid. Both did also present me with what they thought was the best course of action and were very prompt in beginning to organise this which is good.

My initial consultation with the consultant psychiatrist quite a difficult experience as I was met with less empathy than expected and less empathy than would have made an already difficult experience a bit easier. So I felt very defensive throughout the appointment and less inclined to share given I felt what I said was met with scepticism. To reassure me that my eating was not unsolvable or not as bad as it could be is one thing, to tell me that I wasn't really undereating and that I wasn't really underweight represented very poor and insensitive word choice regarding an issue that has dictated my life for the past year and a half. So, I think what could be improved upon would be the level of empathy clinicians show to their patients.

It’s hard to benchmark because the CC is my only experience of this type of environment, so there might be better or worse who knows. I do however feel the clinic is genuine in its desire for positive patient outcomes, yes its a business underlying but you feel like a human not a number going through a machine it feels personal. The updates on appointments are timely and there’s good response to any queries raised which are always in a timely manner.

[name removed] has been unusual in many respects for us all. However some of the support services in the clinic have slipped without any resolution. An example would be the Alcohol Group an evening where outpatients come in, this is a valuable life line for continuation and support in recovery. Despite numerous attempts myself or from my Dr were getting zero response. Feels like we’ve been forgotten as a group and I feel a little let down by CC on this front.
