Specialises in: Ophthalmology
Mr. Hooman Sherafat is a consultant ophthalmic surgeon and Clinical Director at the Royal Eye Unit, Kingston Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. He is a general ophthalmologist, performing operations such as complex cataract surgery, as well as having a special interest in ophthalmic, oculoplastic (all disorders of eyelids), lacrimal (tear system) and reconstructive surgery.
Mr Sherafat and his team are simply superb. Having entered the eye unit at Kingston, slightly nervously, for a cataract operation, the whole team did everything, both to reassure me and explain what was happening with care and humour which led to the best possible outcome. The work in the theatre was carried out very efficiently and with great care. My sincere thanks to all concerned

Mr Sherafat performed a cataract operation on my left eye and I could not believe how quick and efficiently it was done, it took about 10/15 mins to operate without any pain or discomfort and within 10 mins I was reading the eye test board to the bottom line, I am very very grateful for for the improvement in my sight.

After suffering from a continually watering left eye, I saw Mr Sherafat at the Royal Eye Unit at Kingston Hospital. He found that the nasolacrimal duct was completely blocked and recommended a dacrocystorhinostomy, which he subsequently performed. The tube was removed after two weeks and I now have no watering problems with that eye. Mr Sherafat is a charming, attentive professional and I have no hesitation in recommending him.

Houman Sherafat operated on my eyelids because they had dropped so much my vision was badly impaired. The result was immediate and marvellous but more importantly he took great care to ensure I wasn’t disfigured with asymmetrical eyelids checking throughout with the same expertise that a portrait painter would make! Furthermore he did his utmost best to ensure I was comfortable, relaxed and unafraid. He talked me through each stage of the procedure and ensured I was discharged with all the information and medication I received. Three weeks on today I am thrilled with the result. I can look up and sideways without having to move my head to an awkward angle and I find that there is a positive psychological affect for me as people no longer think I look tired, ill or half awake. I cannot thank Mr Sherafat enough and the results are amazing!

Dr Sherefat carried out an extremely successful procedure to correct a problem with my eyelids. I found him to be gentle , and extremely efficient so that I was ,at all times ,during a surgery when I was awake, both calm and at ease. He listened to me , made suggestions and understood my concerns. I had to return, after 5 months, for an unrelated problem. He remembered me and was delighted with the results of his work , as am I. He diagnosed the new condition, recommended and put in place the course of treatment ( another small operation) and I am looking forward to it. I feel very lucky to have been referred to his clinic in the first instance.

Simply The Best - I can not rate Mr Sherafat's skills, patient care and bedside manner higher! Since a young child I have had several eye operations which had left me with such a phobia and fear about my eyes, that at times it was paralysing. This fear has now diminished thanks entirely to the way Mr Sherafat dealt with this 53 years old 'baby'! And the medical results of his surgery could not be a better. It is also clear that Mr Sherfat's team and colleagues hold him in very high regard. I have been incredibly fortunate to be in his care.

Wish I could rate at 7 STAR, this Dr is nothing short of an expert in Ophthalmology. I have a complicated medical history and for past year and half, been suffering badly with blurred vision, itchy, scratchy and weeping eyes especially in right eye. It got so bad that on some occasions, I had to avoid driving. After seeing five different specialists (NHS and Private), and trying various treatments including, Chloramphenicol, Steriods (Prednisolone) and various others. Dr Hooman, carefully listened to my history and with his forensic analysis and detective work, quickly and accurately established root cause on first diagnosis and voila! within 2 months, I finally have my vision restored. Highly recommended.

I recently underwent surgery to correct the involutional ptosis which was significant impeding the vision in my left eye. This is a congenital condition which was exacerbated by 40 years of wearing gas permeable contact lenses. It's fair to say that I approached the procedure with considerable trepidation - due in no small measure to the complex ocular history on my father's side. Almost 3 weeks on from the surgery I am still a bit overawed that the operation has made to both my vision & also my overall appearance. The quality of care & attention that I received from Mr Sherafat & the rest of his "A" team at The REU was excellent. Whilst it's not an experience I'd rush to repeat, it is nevertheless one that will live long in the memory for all the best reasons. The quality of care & attention I received was first class & I feel very fortunate to have experienced the NHS at his best !
