Review of Cotswold House Oxford Inpatient
16th January 2023

I was sectioned the day before all mdt staff left for Christmas. There was no one to review my care for over a week and I was left with agency staff on level 3s who didn’t know why I was on them, and I was very distressed with no support for the majority of each day. My meds have been changed without me being informed, and it seems like I am told to come up with plans etc to progress my treatment, but then whatever I come up with is turned down or ignored because the staff already knew what they were going to do and there was no point in asking me to do this which just makes me feel frustrated and not listened to. However some of the nursing staff and HCAs are so so helpful and come into work every day to support us as much as they can and I really appreciate them

Suggested improvements
MDT staff need to be less patronising

Review of Highfield Unit Oxford
6th January 2023

The Highfield have been exceptional in the way in which they cared for our daughter. They have provided excellent professional expertise, the occupational health team are brilliant and the nursing staff and health care assistants are all highly committed, knowledgeable and lovely. We are extremely grateful for everything that the Highfield Unit has done for our daughter over the last 5 months.

Suggested improvements
I can't think of anything.

The mental health staff are very hostile and argumentative which I can prove.

Suggested improvements
Everything could have been done better. They are meant to listen but don’t and should respond to correspondence but don’t and their words can’t be relied upon.

I was placed on section and level 3 observations the day before MDT left for Christmas. I was left with next to no support for the next week because there was nobody to review my treatment, and agency staff were almost always on my level 3 obs. They did not provide any support at all. Many staff do not understand eating disorders and make such unhelpful comments. This is especially hard when they are on level 3s and you cannot get away or talk to another member of staff without them listening. However, many permanent staff are lovely and so helpful and constantly do their best for us, but they are definitely overshadowed by unhelpful and agency staff

Suggested improvements
Consistent staffing Food orders being more organised - it’s why we’re here in the first place and inconsistency just increases anxiety around and outside of mealtimes

There were a handful of very nice and attentive staff, but the system wouldn't listen to their recommendations. There were others that were just ticking a box and not listening to my needs at all. And others that were arrogant and made huge assumptions about my needs. I was discharged in the middle of a very unstable period, despite my support worker strongly recommending that I remain on the service. Their threshold for "well enough" is laughable at best, dangerous at worst. I was discharged without my medication being stabilised. It is not appropriate for my GP to have to work it out (although she really tries!) I don't think anyone there knows enough about bipolar and their approach is limited as a result. They also don't seem to understand different episodes within bipolar. (I suggest you do a lot of reading about mixed episodes)

OHFT say that what they say verbally is not legally binding. It has to be questioned whether they can be trusted which I have been advised they can’t.

Suggested improvements
They could be reliable which they currently aren’t also they could close the Warneford and Littlemore which would be in everyone’s best interests. They are also extremely disrespectful.
