Well, sadly I find the need not only to complain but to report this hospital to the GMC. I had surgery this January with Mr Arcot Venkat, I paid for an exploratory surgery so as a plan could be agreed an established prior to the main surgery. In total I have parted with £20k in self pay packages which was supposed to include 6 months for aftercare and follow ups. It was a agreed and I signed for an ‘extended right side hemi colectomy’ the surgery was supposed to address instabilty of my whole colon due to long standing intermittent cecal volvulus, therefore it was agreed at Mr Venkat’s suggestion that my colon would be secured with ‘pexy’ - stitching to stabilise remaining parts. None of this was conducted. I woke up in a lot of pain and could feel serious issues with instabilty. I am now totally bed bound cannot even wash or dress myself or stand. I kept raising this with staff and I was told it was part of healing. Sadly time has shown this not to be the case. At my follow up I explained these issues to Mr Venkat, I told him I could feel something collapsed in my left hip and dragging from under my ribs. He advised me it was anxiety and impossible, wrote to my GP advising they prescribe anti anxiety meds. I paid for some scans which showed that what should be under my ribs is now resting on my pubic bone and my remaining colon is almost entirely in my pelvis. My other organs also being dragged with it. They reluctantly offered me to discuss this with Mr Venkat whilst also trying to charge me around £200 separately for this consult, this despite the fact my package was to include aftercare for complications. This consultation was via teams, Mr Venkat and Nurse Sarah were present. After the a call they did not realise they had left the audio open, I heard them ridiculing me and laughing hysterically regarding my disablement and issues - I have this on recording. I have consulted with several highly regarded surgeons whom tell me that the surgery Mr Venkat has conducted could never be termed as an ‘extended hemi’ it was in fact a very basic right side hemi with post op notes quoting dissection up to the middle colic artery. Also that I require corrective surgery so as I am able to stand and walk. I went back to the hospital asking for help, they refuse. My complaint now responded to keeps up the pretence that they have conducted what I signed for which was an extended hemi. Basically it seems they have actually conducted a different surgery to the one I have consented to which has left me disabled and I will be taking this further and reporting to avoid anyone else being misinformed If you have any complications at this hospital, as another reviewer has commented.. you are left with ridicule and no help whatsoever, they do not care if you can walk when you leave. Dare to utter words of complications and you become a problem patient immediately.

I was so impressed by the treatment I received, From when I arrived I was kept informed of the timings and when i would have my procedure. All the staff that came to see me were friendly and nothing was too much trouble, My discharge was on time and it was explained to me the process when I got home. I cant thank you enough.

Had cataract surgery with massive problems of dysphotopsia and posterior vitreous detachment in this hospital. I would not recommend this hospital or surgeon to anyone. Normal safety procedures were not followed during the rushed surgery. I was not anaesthetised in the theatre, no preparations had been made for a chair for me to sit on to have my eye marked for the toric lens, instead I had to perch on a very high stool where I feared I would fall off backwards; I was not given a signal to ask the surgeon to stop operating and so could not tell them that I felt as though they were burning a hole in the side of my eye with the pain; there was only one lens in the room instead of two; the lens did not open out properly so the surgeon pushed it flat into my eye with his finger; the lens has a significant crack in it. My reporting of pain during surgery was met with ridicule and my huge difficulties with dysphotopsia were dismissed with a sneer and a shrug that this condition is so rare that surgeons do not bother to learn about it. A YAG procedure caused a very symptomatic posterior vitreous detachment that needed a vitrectomy after 13 months of hell so that I could drive safely. After cataract surgery I was left with 6/60 vision in my non-operated eye and totally unable to use my vision in the operated eye. I was a danger to myself and to others but the hospital would not address my difficulties and told me I was being unrealistic in my expectations. This is unacceptable especially as the surgeon kept telling me I would have no problems when I repeatedly asked for information on the problems caused by cataract surgery prior to the botched operation. The surgeons and the hospital take no responsibility or care for patients who have post-operative problems. It is just a money-making system with no concern for patient safety, health or outcomes.

I have had the pleasure of having a half knee replacement 10 days ago. I have absolute confidence in recommending this hospital for anyone considering a similar operation. From the consultant surgeon, nursing staff, catering staff to the people who clean up for everyone I have nothing but admiration for their skills and dedication. It seems such a sad unnecessary criticism, especially in this day and age, the hospital / Medical facility, whatever you want to call it has the worst WiFi (absolutely free mind you) system I have come across since the 1990s. Don't bring your check book, it won't help. Sad really. Bring a book, a real one Harry Baker

I went to the Hampshire clinic a few years ago for a minor operation and my husband has also used the services to see a consultant. In the current, stressful climate - my GP urgently referred me for an ultrasound scan. I emailed over the referral first thing yesterday and called to say it was being sent. By the end of the day, I hadn’t hear anything - rang to be told they hadn’t even looked at the email. 24 hours later I had to chase them again, apparently it’s been looked at by a radiologist who doesn’t seem it important enough to do now. Appalling patient care! Aside from having to constantly chase for updates, obviously I feel very stressed about my current pain and BMI don’t feel i’m worthy of their time. After the Covid pandemic, I would NEVER support The Hampshire Clinic again. Truly awful!
