Review of Emergency Care Centre SGH

I do realise waiting is always going to be an issue when attending A&E, in the past , pre Covid , I'm used to seeing a screen with expected waiting times on it. My overall wait for treatment wasn't out of the ordinary but was different to what I'm used to. I'm used to seeing a triage nurse within 20minutes and then waiting 3-4hrs for treatment. On this occasion I waited 3.5hrs to be initially seen but then had a very rapid x-ray and consultation and was out of A&E within 4hrs.

Kept patients informed of waiting times

Arrived at the out of hours surgery. Had to wait 10 mins for the receptionist to turn up. Waited another 10 mins before seeing the doctor. I didn’t see anyone leave in that time. The doctor examined the problem I was having and told me to make an appointment with my own GP.

Suggested improvements
I wasted a lot of time with no outcome so anything you do is a bonus

kept waiting for over four hours, then waiting outside of hospital till 9pm partner disconnected phone call 5 times and when got through was told would be contacted in 2 hours but never was, nil by mouth then given insulin and sent home at 3am without eating and was very sick when got home, only to find out later he wasn’t supposed to be discharged he was supposed to have an operation and the consultant told peter the most horrible things and that he would never survive an operation and it was a waste of his the consultant/surgeons time, had to be re admitted next day to go through the same wait and then wait outside, 84 yr old patient who had had a stroke within the past year and is confused as it is, he was told not to take 2 medication but no paperwork, sent with him saying what he has a terrible memory as it is, but this was horrible,

I am a sufferer of meniers disease. Like a lot of conditions I have good days and bad days. I attended the accident and emergency department as I was having "the worst incident of vertigo i have ever suffered". My partner stopped in the car park and asked a security guard for his assistance to get me inside as I was unable to walk or move unaided owing to the vertigo. He fetched a wheelchair and then my partner had to struggle to get me inside. We got booked in at the reception desk after a lengthy wait and my partner despite being my carer was told she had to leave. I got placed in a walkway on the wheelchair and got told somebody would be with me soon. 2.5 hours passed, still I had not been seen despite me flagging several nurses asking when the triage nurse would see me. After 3 hours of waiting the attack subsided but yet still no triage. As the attack subsided I decided it was time to leave and not take any of the doctors time unnecessarily. 3 hour waiting time and not even seen a triage nurse? The lady's at reception was quoting a 7 hour wait time .I am no doctor but I am sure that the four a waiting time target was certainly not adhered to

Suggested improvements
Triage could of been better Perhaps 2 triage nurses as opposed to one? Perhaps a gp in a and e so those who need to be seen by a general practitioner can be seen appropriately rather than a ED doctor.

I couldn’t get to see my GP but saw someone else then was told I could possibly have blood clots so I needed to go to hospital… the ward was closed so I had to go to A@E… got there at 18.30 and was told there was a 3hour wait.. eventually saw a doctor at about 2 in the morning while took blood which showed blood clots so after an injection I was sent home.. 3.30 in the morning… The follow up appointment was the next day but still can not get a scan until 5 days later..!!

Suggested improvements
The staff were very professional and polite and it just seemed to be lack of resources and available doctors

I attended A&E with my 10 year old daughter who had a suspected fracture to the wrist. Our waiting time was minimal for the first contact to be made where the Doctor ensured my daughter was not requiring any pain relief before we were sent straight X-ray, again we was lucky abs only waited a few minutes before she was seen by the radiologist, we returned to A&E where we again had a minimal wait time until the doctor took us through to the plaster room, the doctor then did the procedure himself to ensure my daughter was not waiting to long as all the nurses were busy. The doctor was kind, courteous and empathetic to my daughter. When I asked him why he was completing the plastering himself he stated he didn’t want to make a child in pain wait unnecessarily when it would only take him a few moments. Great service from start to finish.

Nothing could of been done better in my opinion at this visit.

Very very long wait with a small child. Got stuck in a back waiting room as child had a temp. Booyhs were not cleaned between patients so massive risk there. Was waiting for calpol and blood sugar test for 2 hours after seeing doctor we ended up leaving as child was burning up with fever due to not having medicine

Suggested improvements
Cleaned more Let partners stay with you to see to children More communication Less wait times Turn people away for minor ailments lots there just for minor things

The care/investigations were thorough and I left feeling confident that everything necessary had been done.

Suggested improvements
Too many patients were not wearing masks for me to feel the environment was “clean”.
