Let me reassure you if you’re reading this and thinking of applying for a job or you’re a patient getting a placement at Surehaven. Surehaven was a great experience for me and helped me move on after 15 years in medium secure hospitals up and down the UK.
The staff went out of their way to support me thru dark periods in my life. I wouldn’t be around today if it hadn’t been for them.
Surehaven Glasgow is let down by the management and doctor. The staff are great here and are really the saving grace. Neither management nor doctor listen to their patients. It is very obvious that this is run as a business. Shaw Healthcare really need to adjust their focus from profit to patient care. This one establishment makes almost £2 million per year net profit, but you would not know this by the facilities available. If you need a new mattress because the one you have is worn and hurting your back, you will wait about a year to receive it. Replace the management and the doctor and this place would be the best of it's type in Scotland.
The current dr in charge of this site should be moinitered closer as his work ethic is questionable he makes very little time for his paitents and spends more time in his office playing chess and from my own experriance he blames others more than he accepts his own mistakes in my opinion I would not advise any one to be under his care the staff on site are some of the best supportive staff I have come across they are only let down by the fact they work under him surehaven hospital would be better of without him
If you are looking for great care then Drumchapel Hospital is not the place to expect it. More often than not it is understaffed, crawling with bugs with groups of nurses always on their mobile phones or smoking outside the side doors. The staff all know this and do nothing about it but help cover it up. The sooner it is closed the better for Scotland's older population who if unfortunate to be admitted to this place will not even be given a drink of water whilst being left in bed for most of the day every day. Truly hellish place.
