If they tell you you are going to Rutherford ward, most cases you can pull out and get better care at home. Rutherford's security arrangements are awful in one case someone openly bringing cannabis for someone. During the stay, absconding was more than a daily basis with regular police returning confused disorientated people. Assault was not unheard of. Staff at Rutherford had bad attitude towards patients and also patients of higher care need. Staff treats the latter group like vermin. Weirdly also windows are locked open and the area Gart Royal is on is laden of vermin, foxes, pigeons squirrels and it was terrifying when these came through the window and climbed literally all over the bed. I chased a rat into the shower. The staff on reporting were uninterested. Consultant only seen me roughly no more than 20 mins most weeks.

The only help I got was from the other patients. All the good staff have left Rutherford ward and the care is horrible. The staff spend all the time in a room ignoring the patients. I was scared when people got angry. Sometimes that was the staff. The only input I had into my care was to be asked very occasionally to fill in my menu. My doctor was a horrible angry man that didn’t listen to me. I would recommend this hospital to anyone.

on a recent visit the receptionist was sliding back and forth over the desk instead of walking round the reception which I consider to be extremelyunprofessional and sloppy. I don’t know who works in the cafe but it took her all her time to get up from her seat? and provide me with some tea, generally it is a lazy environment. It’s quite interesting how the complaints manager and clinical director reside in the upper section and the psychiatric wards are below perhaps it should be the reverse. Gartnavel Royal Hospital is famed for having incompetent consultant psychiatrists which does not appear to have been corrected under Nhs guidance. Resulting in some cases unnecessary detention due to the withdrawal of medication. I did witness a psychiatric nurse once spend 2 hours reading a magazine! It’s was featured in a Chanel 4 documentary 20yrs ago highlighting unnecessary deaths that have occurred including a friend mine who was 17 yrs old. My advice for any individual who is experiencing mental distress is to seek alternative assistance. Unfortunately the ‘Priory’ is to expensive so they have no other choice but to enter the gates of hell also known as Gartnavel royal hospital. Former.
