On going sciatica

Suggested improvements
After phoning 111 for advice on a particularly bad flare up of sciatica I was referred to the UTC. I quickly received a phone call back from UTC to arrange an appointment. The appointment was made for 11am I arrived 10 mins before my appointment and in great discomfort. However the appointment for 11am seemed to be useless, patients were seen in a first come first serve basis. If I’d have known this I would have just gone earlier I eventually was seen at 12:45pm, after having to lay horizontally over several uncomfortable chairs in the waiting room! Other than this issue the Doctor was very thorough and I was very impressed

The waiting times were poor

Suggested improvements
Having to wait 4 hour with an appointment in a very small room is not good . A number system would help so you know how long you may be ,a lot of people left because they couldn't cope with the situation which was very poor, The consultant was very good once we got in ,but then could not prescribe anything which seemed pointless waiting 4 hours.

I have AF, and as a consequence of the beta blockers have lower blood pressure. I also take rivaroxaban daily and that has lead to occasional side effects. This has led me to seek reassurance from a medical professional if I feel something isn't right as early intervention could prevent any condition becoming much worse.

Suggested improvements
It was somewhat, disconcerting to find that the Doncaster Royal could only have one doctor and one nurse working in the urgent care unit. As a wait of four hours is hardly consistent with the term urgent. For a country that is part of the G7 how have we now got into this position of seriously under staffing our health care. However, I could not fault the level of care I received once I wad able to see a doctor. He did a thorough examination and was able to explain my condition giving me advice on how I could treat it and what I needed to do next.

I phoned at 17.30, and received a call back at 20.30. {Not a criticism ~i realise hiw busy the service is.) The appointment was scheduled for 2.15am, which was obviously not ideal, but I certainly didnt warant an A&E visit. I couldn't collect my prescription until 10.am. However, when i attended i was seen within a few minutes. Staff were helpful and pleasant. I was seen and treated really quickly, despite been warned when i received the call back that I 'might be there for hours, Obviously Saturday evening is likely to be busy, which I fully understand. I would have appreciated an initial dose of antibiotics/analgesia, but otherwise have ni issues at all with th e service i received.

Suggested improvements
Perhaps access to initial dose of medications, otherwise nothing.

because i had an appointment booked for 4pm and i didn't get seen untill 7.40pm they only had one doctor on duty and a nurse who left at 6pm the service is ridiculous and they need to learn how to stick to appointment times if i was late to an appointment i wouldn't get seen but it seem's to be acceptable for patients to sit around almost 4 hours after there appointment time to actually be seen

Suggested improvements
more doctors and sticking to the appointment times

When initially phoned the service at 8pm was told it would be a maximum of 6 hour wait for a phone call from the doctor which the doctor phoned after 7 hours but I got an appointment immediately. Doctor was lovely and listened to me and ensured that I received the best care as my blood pressure was extremely high on one machine so he went and got another machine to double check

Suggested improvements
Timely when promising patients it would be 6 hours to ensure that it is within the 6 hour window.
