Having had a permanent catheter and flip/flow valve fitted for over two years I finally had a green light laser procedure at Warwick hospital on March 9th 2022.
Subsequent to this I was to have my catheter removed (so relieved) and be put on a ‘trial without catheter’ and to self catheterise for an indefinite period.
To this end Clinical nurse specialist Marie Riding came to my home and not only put me at ease but instructed me extremely well on how to undertake the procedure. She also promised to follow up on how I have been getting on with it.This has been very reassuring as I had been somewhat apprehensive about it.
Nurse Marie Riding gave me excellent service which I am extremely grateful for.
She also placed an order for all the catheters, wipes etc. which came to me very quickly.

After having had a catheter in place for several months I was referred to Fittleworth by my local NHS hospital for instruction in self-catheterisation. I had a home visit from Marie, who patiently explained the procedure and ensured that I had the confidence and ability to do it myself. Marie made me feel that she really wanted me to succeed, and she patiently answered all my questions and concerns. Her tact and professionalism were excellent.
Thank you so much for this lovely review. I am pleased that the support and encouragement Marie has given you has helped you. Tina Maddams Nursing Services Manager Fittleworth Medical
Marie Riding was a true professional with a empathetic personality.
I very much appreciated the care she gave me when I was learning how to self catheter.
I felt entirely comfortable and lost the nervousness I had before she arrived.
Please thank her on my behalf
Not having a face to face meeting with an urology nurse you’ve not met teaching new skills over a video call felt pretty daunting but everything was structured so well and was so relaxed it was a great experience. My disability was taken in to account so a product was chosen that was more fitting for my needs.
A follow up call 7 days later to see how I’d been getting on and a chance to ask questions was great (and no question was too silly)
I thought Marie Riding made me feel relaxed about the whole process which made it easier to try self catherisation
Marie Riding was very considerate and professional. She explained everything very clearly and took the lesson in self-catherisation at my own pace. The session wasn’t rushed and she helped me stay relaxed. I can now self-catheterise, which I had been very worried about.
I was visited by a lovely nurse, her name is Marie Riding, she was respectful and very helpful and made things very clear. She took the time to answer any questions that I had and made a visit that I was pretty much dreading into one that at the end of it I thought, yes, I think I can do this. Thank you Marie!
