I have to appluad the excellent work of the secretaries and nursing staff and of course, my nconsultant.
Have had a pleasurable time in the hospital for 4 unexpected nights, and the care from start to finish was exemplary. From MAU orange to D2 with 2 nights in each. All the staff are amazing and work so hard without the true recognition, nothing was too much trouble and willing to go out of their way to help. My only small dilemma was the time it takes to discharge having waited 3 hours.
Everyone I met was friendly and very professional. Everything was explained and I knew what was going on. I was really impressed by how clean the toilet facilities were - sadly they're not always like that in (other) hospitals.
I can't 'recommend' (as per the question above) endoscopy to anyone I know because I hope they never need it!
Everyone in the department is pleasant to deal with: the receptionist, nurses, the doctors and the outpatient access manager.
My punctal plugs keep coming out and I feel a nuisance about it but without the plugs my dry eyes get so much worse. The staff are always so accommodating and help me get the assistance I need.
I found the receptionist who was on duty the day I visited the department to be not very nice. I visited at 13.30, 11/11/19. She was very abrupt with everyone, and at some points quite rude to other users in the department. Receptionist is probably not the best job for this lady. Her compassion when dealing with older people was non existant.
kind and helpful staff giving good patient care and an excellent discharge briefing on how to take the medication, what to do and what happens next.
The only thing you could improve from my experience on the day is to give better training on hoists, what slings to use and where to find them.
I was treated like a person not a number. My care was discussed with me giving me reasons for decisions made.
On the whole my stay was very enjoyable,(if you can say that about being in hospital!)
The ward staff from the doctors to the cleaners were polite, caring, cheerful and always ready to help. I had a total knee replacement, my first ever non day visit, and was kept informed of what was happening, or about to happen, to me throughout. The food was far better than I expected.
The discharge routine however, was rather haphazard and disjointed with a lot of waiting around for someone to make a decision. Also no-one on the ward seemed to be aware that my consultant did not work at QA on Mondays - and hadn't done for years!
There was a further problem with the heating in my section of the ward. One evening it suddenly rose dramatically causing problems for the patients and the on duty nursing staff. This however was dealt with promptly but it was something the ward staff shouldn't have to experience. I was later told by another nursing team member that the heating was rubbish!!
Overall I think you are doing a fantastic job especially when you take into account the staff and funding shortages.
My ratings speak for themselves.
The care given by Ms S Meredith and support staff made you feel like you were treated as an individual and not a number - very professional and very helpful/friendly.
I felt I was in safe hands.
All the staff were so kind, considerate and friendly. The rooms were immaculate and the food was lovely..
