Review of Eye Day Case written by a patient
8th March 2020

I have had 2 cateract operations at Queen Alexandra Hospital, all staff, from the Surgeons who performed the surgery, to the Porter who rescued me when the taxi driver dropped me off at the wrong entrance, have been kind, courteous and pleasant as well as highly skilled. I was very apprehensive having read scare stories about our NHS, I can only say my friend paid thousands of pounds for her cateract operations in a private hospital and the only difference in our experiences was her 'after op' cup of tea came in a tea pot and she was asked what type of biscuits she would like - mine came in a mug and I had no choice in my biscuit. A great big 'thank you' to all concerned, and no improvement is necessary.

Review of F4 stroke written by a patient
8th March 2020

I had a 13 hour wait (from 1815 until 0700) in A+E without seeing a doctor to authorise a scan despite notifying A+E on arrival that I believed I'd had a stroke. However once I'd been taken out of the pit stop and admitted into the ward I felt like I was given VIP treatment. The problem seemed to be in A+E where I felt that no-one believed that I'd had a stroke (because I looked too good) and no-one seemed to understand that I'd been contacted by a consultant from the strokes unit between 1600 and 1700 hours that day who'd told me to get down to A+E as quickly as possible for a scan to be done straight away . There is room for considerable improvement in communications/information sharing between A+E and the specialist units and perhaps some of the guidelines /procedures need reviewing to help circumvent my unacceptable experience in A+E from becoming the norm. On this occasion the delay appears not to have affected the result .The only ill effect was me suffering from sleep deprivation for a couple of days . Once again I can only praise all of the ward staff ... they were magnificent!!!

I had day surgery recently at queen alexandra hospital and I was amazed at the service I received from arrival , my op, to discharge. I live in chichester, so travelling to Portsmouth for a day to have a op in a hospital I hardly knew proved a bit nerve wracking . . However, I shouldn't of worried. The consultant to the nurses all gave me care, dignity and respect and looked after me so well . I really believe my usual hospital st richards who are listed as outstanding, should take a leaf out of queen alexandra staff. St rich are good, don't get me wrong, but queen alexandras is absalutely amazing and I seriously recommend every member of staff I dealt with that day.

Review of F4 stroke written by a patient
2nd March 2020

The staff on this ward were brilliant. They were caring, informative and made a difference when I felt frightened and confused. Another patient had dementia, and I witnessed the kindness and patience of this lady, no cross words or irritation when she was distressed, excellent. If I had to be on a ward, I would like it to be this one, F4 room 31 (I think).

Review of Audiology written by a patient
29th February 2020

I arrived eRly on a Saturday morning, I was seen straightaway, everyone was so kind and empathetic, Jayne the audiologist was great she fully understood my situation with my inner ear disease, she made me feel supported. sadly the wait is 6-8months for a hearing aid, hopefully it will be shorter. I would highly recommend the department for their care and support.
