Review of Emergency Care Centre DPOW

Receptionist clearly does not like her job. Irritated I had arrived and fired off questions, when the speaker is too small and everyone in the waiting area can hear your personal details and health details beaching confidentiality. I have spine issues and chairs poor they have no support for your back, which then made it worse.there is no sign to explain why some patients are seen in a different area. This made one man angry as he had been waiting a long time. A and e didn't seem busy but there seemed to be lack of space.

Suggested improvements
Improvement in receptionist training. Improvement in speakers so receptionist doesn't have to shout or you. Waiting room separate from reception so you cannot hear everyone's personal details. Improved space where non urgent or lower level care needed for better throughput

Arrived at A&E 20:30 and waited a very long time before seen, left at 04:30 . It was very busy. Not enough staff. Waiting areas untidy.

Suggested improvements
Employ more doctors.

I was advised by NHS 24 to go to the hospital within the hour as I had damaged my leg/foot. I made my way there and was met by a long queue out the door and on to the street of people waiting just to check in with A&E let alone wait for treatment. After 2 hours waiting just to check in I didn’t even make the front of the queue and was met by who I can only describe as a charge nurse checking why everyone was there. To which I was met with a disgusting attitude and horrible care. I was advised to keep myself comfortable overnight and return for the orthopaedic clinic the following morning as she said it “didn’t look like there was anything wrong with me”. Had I been told this 2 hours before I stood on my sore leg/foot I wouldn’t have been in so much pain. I returned the following morning and finally make it to check in and was met with incompetent staff who couldn’t get my details right and repetitively asked my details as they had it wrong I was finally sent to the fracture clinic. This is where I received the care I needed and was finally given a boot to wear for three weeks which is disgusting that I was made to stand for so long both occasions as well as a member of nursing staff telling me there was nothing wrong. I’m utterly disgusted

Suggested improvements
Advise those attending A&E if there is a long queue of the information about wait times and other options before making them wait so long to then have no treatment. 2 bigger waiting area to allow people to not have to wait in queues out the door and on to the street. Train your staff with customer service and a bit of compassion towards those in need.

The nurse practitioner unfortunately ticked me as having been seen - left 2.5hrs watching all other patients being called through to be seen by various staff members. I appreciate some were in more urgent care and have no issues on that basis, but it was only because of reception staff vigilance that they realised a problem had occurred and set out to resolve the issue on my behalf. Once they’d done this I was seen, X-ray, seen again and discharged in 30mins. My question and comment would be “How many times does this occur ?” Let’s hope not too often - the system on the day I attended was working really well better than I’ve ever seen A&E thanks

Suggested improvements
Make sure don’t mark people as seen ! Make it clearer where patients need to stop before entering dept saves receptionist getting abuse from small minority of patients.

Staff were all fine. The wait was quite annoying. More so because of the patients around me moaning about the wait. It was well organised, socially distanced. Several patients were under the impression that they had been booked in by their gp and didn't want to wait like everybody else. GPS should be told not to say this. They are not managing peoples expectations realistically. I checked out the wait times online before I went - it stated 4.5 hours. I was seen and left within approx 3.5 hours. Due to restrictions currently it was good service

Reported to reception and been sent to wait at the corridor instead of the waiting room. Wanted to approach the receptionist again and been told rudely from a passing by nurse to step back and wait outside.
