Because I attended as a 999 call in a taxi sent from Sheffield. Was not treat as a 999 patient. I was left to sleep on the floor in a and e waiting area. I was the n called into triage and was asked do i really think I should be there without asking what was wrong with me and felt more pressured to go home even though I was a suspected mini stroke victim. I was just too ill to argue my case so went home. Not once did they even ask me my symptoms or if I am diabetic which I am.
On arriving i was just left after obs being taken as a covid patient no extra ppe a bin from across the corridor not cleaned left over flowing in my room told i woul recieve some pain meds so after an hour i asked nothing so another hour nothing then came and took a chair to a person opposite no cleaning ??? He was put in there after another patient left the room yet it was not cleaned . I heard a nurse say ive given her the wrong meds and she said thats because your hungover that could of been fatal.. then a chinese nurse finally brought my meds but couldn't tell me what they was as couldn't presnounce them i asked how long until the doctor his reply who knows and walked off when i see the doctor who was lovely and clearly had read my notes came i explained i was ok and just needed some extra pain relief for my head i wanted home really i was feeling dredful but i wasnt staying in those conditions no way ive trusted Grimsby hospital for the last 25 yrs im now terrified at the thought of ever going again .
I got forgot about where was sat in ane for over 6 hours and they eventually said oh we didn't realise you was still here as my notes got lost as when got there went to resus then red side ane and sat in a room for hours with nobody coming to me I was in ane in total over 9 hours without a offer of a drink or anything to eat . So I was in ane from 7pm-7.45am
I feel suffering with excruciating pain affected my responses at times. However the A&E doctor was thorough in his findings. I was given pain relief via syringe and this appeared to ease my pain but I was sick as pain came back and throughout my attendance at the department. He consulted with me on my choices and called gynaecology department. Two ladies visited within 45 minutes and did a thorough examination abs took a cervical smear even after I told them I was being treated for cancer. Once they left I was given three pain relief tablets to ease my pain which it did but sick again and then had a CT Scan as requested by gynaecology and doctor agreed as he said it may be felopien tube strangulation due my mass on right side with cyst. Before coming home gynaecology doctor came to discuss my concerns and he concurred that it could be right side dust on ovaries could have burst but would review my CT Scan when able and MDT to be held to discuss my case. Considers an admittance from A&E if my pain had not faded within two hours. Eventually discharged home as pain reduced and over counter pain relief advised paracetamol and ibuprophen which has continued to reduce my pain but still in pain .
Excellent care even before I walked through the doors. A kind Porter called Karl Stephenson saw me struggling to walk into the department, so brought a wheelchair out and wheeled me in. Service and care was very smooth and efficient. Staff were super busy but each one made time for me as a patient and actually showed they cared. I felt at ease, even in a lot of pain, I felt confident in the staff, drs, nurses and my overall experience was as pleasant as could be. Most staff kept saying sorry for being so busy but it was not their fault. I was very impressed.
The receptionists were very compassionate however they aren’t the ones that have much control, one nurse in particular (Kirsty) was so lovely and went out of her way to care for patients and make them feel supported, the other members of staff however I feel did the bare minimum and left me aswell as other patients in need for far too long without any information or advice
All staff were very helpful and I felt well taken care of
.
Great experience in Blueberry Ward
My care worker was excellent however the X-ray staff removed steri strips and she was absolutely “fizzing” with anger.
