Because I attended as a 999 call in a taxi sent from Sheffield. Was not treat as a 999 patient. I was left to sleep on the floor in a and e waiting area. I was the n called into triage and was asked do i really think I should be there without asking what was wrong with me and felt more pressured to go home even though I was a suspected mini stroke victim. I was just too ill to argue my case so went home. Not once did they even ask me my symptoms or if I am diabetic which I am.

I feel suffering with excruciating pain affected my responses at times. However the A&E doctor was thorough in his findings. I was given pain relief via syringe and this appeared to ease my pain but I was sick as pain came back and throughout my attendance at the department. He consulted with me on my choices and called gynaecology department. Two ladies visited within 45 minutes and did a thorough examination abs took a cervical smear even after I told them I was being treated for cancer. Once they left I was given three pain relief tablets to ease my pain which it did but sick again and then had a CT Scan as requested by gynaecology and doctor agreed as he said it may be felopien tube strangulation due my mass on right side with cyst. Before coming home gynaecology doctor came to discuss my concerns and he concurred that it could be right side dust on ovaries could have burst but would review my CT Scan when able and MDT to be held to discuss my case. Considers an admittance from A&E if my pain had not faded within two hours. Eventually discharged home as pain reduced and over counter pain relief advised paracetamol and ibuprophen which has continued to reduce my pain but still in pain .

I do not think my state of mind due to pain could have been treated any other way as you need to define the pain before pain relief can be administered. I felt I had been ignored but that was the strength of the pain I feeling.and my logical mind was impaired thus any information shared by staff may have been missed or misinterpreted by me. I feel the A& E doctor supported my choices and did listen to me throughout.

Excellent care even before I walked through the doors. A kind Porter called Karl Stephenson saw me struggling to walk into the department, so brought a wheelchair out and wheeled me in. Service and care was very smooth and efficient. Staff were super busy but each one made time for me as a patient and actually showed they cared. I felt at ease, even in a lot of pain, I felt confident in the staff, drs, nurses and my overall experience was as pleasant as could be. Most staff kept saying sorry for being so busy but it was not their fault. I was very impressed.

Suggested improvements
Perhaps try to have more staff, although I appreciate at this time it’s probably very difficult with people having to isolate etc.

The receptionists were very compassionate however they aren’t the ones that have much control, one nurse in particular (Kirsty) was so lovely and went out of her way to care for patients and make them feel supported, the other members of staff however I feel did the bare minimum and left me aswell as other patients in need for far too long without any information or advice

You need to communicate the level of care you plan to give patients once they are triaged. I was told to go to a&e if I experienced bleeding during my pregnancy so when I did,I went straight there, I explained my history of two miscarriages and made it clear I was concerned about my baby, I waited 4 hours to be told by a doctor that I needed an ultrasound.. in 4 days! I’m glad i booked a private scan for the next day because I somehow managed to see a baby with a heart beat even though I had miscarriage symptoms! I didn’t need to wait 4 hours to be told I would have to wait 4 days to know if my baby was alive or not, it was utterly cruel! The evening of my private scan, the gestational sac fell out of me suddenly, inside was my perfect looking 6 week old Fetus. I had experienced a threatened miscarriage that turned into a spontaneous miscarriage. The stress Grimsby a&E put me through and the lack of help anyone in the nhs was willing to give was unforgivable, you should be ashamed of your system. Women need more support during 1st trimesters, I know you can’t ever really stop a miscarriage but you need to be there for women experiencing miscarriage or miscarriage like symptoms because a little compassion goes a long way. Tell a women who enters a&e, who is pregnant and concerned about miscarriage, if she will be offered a scan or any form of examination as soon as possible so she will not be left waiting for hours and then days for awful news.

My care worker was excellent however the X-ray staff removed steri strips and she was absolutely “fizzing” with anger.
