Last week, I found a lump on my breast and my GP confirmed it. Gave me referral to see a breast surgeon. I had a collection of names. But in this unparalleled time, who was actually seeing new patients? My fear on many accounts was growing. I sent out messages and emails and prayed for a reply. Michelle Wright, Mr Paul Thiruchelvam’s PA, replied to my query immediately and I got an appointment. Such relief and I only had to wait through the weekend. Having just seen Mr Thiruchelvam at his one-stop clinic at The Lister, I cannot stress enough how he immediately put me at my ease. I felt tearful, frightened and so shaky. He was friendly, calm and explained everything, examined me and reassured me too. I had a mammogram, ultrasound and words of comfort. Nothing to worry about. Will have a follow up in a couple of months... and maybe sleep tonight. Thank you so much

Dr Thiruchelvam was kind, considerate and explained the treatment options in a way that was very simple to understand. He was always looking for what was best for me as the patient and was keen to address errors in the system when they occurred for example when the original hospital I was seen at did not transfer my mammogram images in time for my first appointment. On the day of the first operation he talked me through everything again to help put my mind at ease. The surgery was fantastic as I had no pain and it healed so quickly. He also did my second operation and again it went very smoothly and without ill effects. I felt completely confident in his surgical abilities and was highly recommend. All of the above took place during the Covid-19 outbreak and I was always confident that operations would happen at the expected date.

I saw Paul both through the NHS and privately. Paul comes across as both approachable and very professional - an excellent combination. What I was particularly impressed with is the great care I got each step of the way - phone calls, emails and texts from Paul or members of the team who work with him, sending me information and updates or just checking that I was ok. Everyone was very kind; I felt really well cared for.

Unfortunately I was diagnosed with breast cancer during the Covid 19 outbreak and just before the current lock down. So I had to come to terms with the diagnosis and make decisions very quickly in order that Paul and his team could undertake the surgery needed. I am now 2 weeks post surgery and know I have only just embarked on this journey. The work and support of everyone involved from the initial findings and further diagnostics, to where I am now has been exemplary. Paul has been honest, professional and very kind at every juncture. He has been re-assuring and supportive during the most difficult of times. I was terrified about having the surgery and more terrified that it would be delayed due to the virus. Paul and his PA Michelle, worked really hard to get me into theatre as quickly as possible. Paul, Michelle, Alison and the rest of the team have been highly efficient and dedicated and have kept in touch by phone as they have aimed to reduce my time out of my home during lock down. I cannot speak highly enough of my treatment so far and how Paul has headed up his team- everyone has been brilliant! Biggest thanks ever from me and my husband.

I was very fortunate to have my surgery performed by professional and dedicated team of doctors led by Mr Paul Thiruchelvam, BSc PhD FRCS, Consultant Breast Surgeon. I am very impressed how professional, dedicated, committed and caring Dr Paul and his team were for me as patient from the start to the finish of my surgery. I was really worried before I went into the operating theater for surgery but Dr Paul and his team reassured me that I would be in the safe hands with them and everything will be fine and go to plan, which turned out to be true as the outcome of surgery proved to be positive and successful.
