I was so pleased to be assigned Mr Akwari as my surgeon. He was always so thorough and took so much time with me explaining my treatment options and going through the nature of my injury and the time scale I was looking at for it to heal. Again post surgery I felt very safe and secure in his hands and fully informed at every stage of the process. This has been reiterated to me by other patients that I have met in my regular ACL physio classes. I felt as though I was a private patient.

Mr Hawar Akwari done a brilliant job on my wrist. I had an open fracture which he operated on and took up to 6 hours. Mr Akwari basically rebuilt my wrist by putting in metal plates and pins. He said it was the worse he has ever seen in his 6 years of trauma surgery. I can not thank him enough. Mr Akwari even came up to the ward a couple of days later to see how I was getting on. He showed me before and after x-rays and went through on what he had to do.

I unfortunately suffered a bad knee injury whilst playing for my football team Falmouth Town FC. MRI scan results showed i had ruptured my LCL and damaged my hamstrings and leg/calf muscles. Also half of the ACL was torn. As devastated as i was knowing i will be injured for 9/12 months Mr Akrawi was very professional and reassuring that although my knee wont be the same as before, it will be just as strong after the rehab process to be able to play football again, which was a huge relief. He explained in great detail the surgery that was needed and how he will go about to restoring the ruptured ligament. Locating a donated ligament he was able to save using my own hamstring to create the new tendon which as a semi professional football was vital for my recovery. He chose not to work on the acl as it seemed strong enough to recover through the rehab, physio process, which i agreed on. Surgery was a success and there was next to no pain after it was done. He supplied a knee ligament rehab program to follow with all the exercises/stretches and activities needed to make sure my knee fully recovers. 9 months later i was able to return back to football feeling strong and completely confident on a full recovery. Sadly though as i landed from a jump in one of the matches and fully ruptured the rest of what was left on the acl ligament. The rest of the knee which Mr Akrawi worked on was completely fine and stable which was a relief. We both didn't see this as much as a surprise as it was a 50/50 chance it could of happened. I immediately contacted Mr Akrawi as soon as i could after this had happened and he had me in for an mri scan and appoint within the week which was fantastic. Again he very professionally explained with the scan results on what has happened and how surgery will repair the acl ligament. Once again knowing how important keeping my hamstrings untouched for my football he was able to use a donated ligament to repair the acl. Surgery was successful again and felt next to no pain once completed. Currently in the process of the rehabilitation of the acl reconstruction Mr Akrawi's after care has been brilliant. I had concerns over an infection and he was able to examine it then contact me the next morning to make sure everything was ok. Whenever i had concerns or an issue he was more than happy to go out of his way to make sure the recovery process was on track. After my first knee surgery with him and finding out i needed a second one months after i knew in my mind i wanted him to do the second surgery even if it meant waiting for a longer period of time until he was free to do it. I cant thank him enough for making sure my knee would be as strong as before so i am able to continue my football career without any concerns of further injury.

Dear Mr Akrawi This is really to thank you for your care of our son Alex. He recently injured his knee and sustained a subluxated patella with cartilage damage to his lateral condyle, causing his knee to lock. We were really impressed how you identified the underlying problem. I remember well, despite at least two senior members of staff reviewing the MRI scans, there was no clear diagnosis made with regards to the underlying issue. You approached Alex and ourselves very professionally and sensitively explaining the MRI scan in detail and in the context of his presenting problem. You dealt with the required surgery very promptly and gained ours and Alex's trust throughout the whole process, being available for any questions at all times. Alex continues to make good progress following the operation, and fingers crossed won't have any more problems with his knee. We just wanted to make sure you know how impressed we were with your assessment, applied knowledge and professionalism throughout the whole process. We wish you all the very best for your future career, we hope you will choose to work in Cornwall on a permanent basis, but alternatively any hospital would be very lucky to have you on their staff. Thank you for all you have done, best wishes and kind regards, (Dr) Jan Knobloch and (Dr) Emmeline Maguire (Alex's parents)
