Mr Akrawi is outstanding. He listens, takes his time in consultation and explains every step of the way. He makes you feel that you are not on some anonymous conveyor belt but an individual person with specific needs. I can’t rate him highly enough ...at some stage I will probably need a knee replacement but at the minute we’re trying conservative treatment (I say “we” as it’s as if we made a plan together!). My only regret is that he will have moved on from Tunbridge Wells & not be the surgeon to perform it.

Having major surgery recently at Pembury Hospital, I was put at ease by Dr Akrawi. He assured me before my 3hour operation that he was the best bone surgeon and he would do his very best to save my leg. With that said, I had faith and trust in his expertise and therefore not frightened before I went down for surgery. Dr. Akrawi simply is an outstanding surgeon, he will go above and beyond to get his patients make a full recovery. Now back home, making good progress, I can only say it’s the professional care and the expertise that I received by Dr Akrawi.

I suffered a multiple break of my left ankle some three weeks ago and was operated on by Mr Akrawi at Tunbridge Wells Hospital. My ankle was pinned and I had a steel plate inserted. Mr Akrawi was very organised and efficient in the run up to the operation, visiting me in my room at the hospital and explaining what he proposed to do to help me. Immediately after the operation Mr Akrawi spoke to me again and told me what he had found whilst repairing the break (soft bones etc). My ankle healed well and I experienced pain for one week only, which was easily treated with paracetamol. There was no pain at all in the second week. I saw Mr Akrawi today for a check-up in the Trauma and Orthopaedic Dept. He checked the wound personally after the stitches were removed, organised an x-ray after the leg was put in a cast (to reassure me), then spoke with my husband and myself in a consulting room. Mr Akrawi encouraged us to look at the x-rays and pointed out the construction of the ankle, the damage and the repairs, so we understood what he had done. At all times he was informative, genial and kind. He spoke to me as a human being, not as a ‘medical case’, and I could feel my self-confidence returning as it was obvious that there was a care plan for me, for which he was responsible. Mr Akrawi said he would advise my GP to organise a DEXA test for me at some future date. Mr Akrawi is positive and confident and that inspires the patient to feel the same. I am very grateful to him for his expertise and kindness.

I met Mr Akrawi following minor surgery on my knee which had not been totally successful, and immediately felt comfortable with his attitude and diagnosis. At very stage of my pre-op discussions Mr Akrawi was clear and concise. I never felt that he was simply ticking boxes and in a hurry to complete the appointment. As soon as the COVID restrictions were eased Mr Akrawi arranged for a full knee replacement to take place. Prior to the operation Mr Akrawi met with me in the hospital and explained what would happen, and what he believed would be the outcome and the reactions I would get following the surgery. Again he spent time and gave me assurance and confidence in his work. I met with him again immediately before the surgery, and again he gave me assurance. After the operation, and whilst in recovery, Me Akrawi came to see me and explained what he had done and confirmed that all had gone as planned, and my knee had been replaced. Some two hours after returning to my room, Mr Akrawi called in to see if I was recovering OK and advised me that he would see me the following day, to check on the recovery and make sure I was satisfied with the progress. This he did, and he again explained what he had done, in case I had not fully understood his discussions whist I was in recovery. I was discharged on day 3 and returned home. Mr Akrawi asked me to provide photographers on my wound when I visited me Doctor for the dressing to be removed and this I have now done. A follow-up appointment has been made with Mr Akrawi to discuss the progress. I have to say that I cannot emphasise too highly the time Mr Akrawi has taken on my situation. He took time, and made sure that every step of the pre and post op. Action was understood. He explained that pain levels could be severe, although this has not been the case, and I put that down to the fact that his work contributed to that fact. I have heard many stories about consultants who rush their patients and I have to say that this is not the case with Mr Akrawi, he makes you feel that you are the only patient he has on his list, and therefore he has all the time to meet with you. I understand that he is moving to Leeds in the near future, and all I can say is that those in a similar position to me should look in his direction for him to operate. THANK YOU AGAIN FOR A WONDERFUL OUTCOME AND THE CARE AND ATTENTION YOU PROVIDED
