Mr Hatrick is very caring and I have no complaints whatsoever about the actual shoulder replacement operation and his after care. Whilst I did have rehab through my osteopath as it was during COVID, I had virtually no pain after the operation, the scar is minimal and the joint works perfectly. The only thing that I was upset about was that for my first consultation I had to go down the Sussex County on an extremely hot day last summer. The waiting room was stifling and I was sat there for over an hour waiting to see him, whilst other patients, who could have been seeing other consultants, were coming and going. I then saw Mr Hatrick for barely five minutes, so didn't get to know him, as he seemed very keen to get me out as soon as possible. Perhaps I don't blame him now as he would have been working under those conditions for much longer than I was there. I have now been signed off after a year, and I only wish he did knee replacements as well.

Response from Mr N Cameron Hatrick

Thank you for your kind feedback regarding your shoulder replacement. I'm very sorry you had such a bad experience at the Royal Sussex County Hospital. Unfortunately the fracture clinic was relocated to a portacabin over ten years ago as a 'temporary measure' and we have been there ever since. On a hot day it is, as you correctly point out, stifling and a very unpleasant environment in which to work. We are also conscious that most patients, having waited in the heat, want to be seen and get home as efficiently as possible, providing their condition is treated appropriately. Everyone is seen in time order and the clinics are often overbooked - hence the delay for which I apologise. I hope you continue to recover well from your shoulder replacement. Kind regards, Cameron Hatrick

When I started getting severe pains in my shoulder, i was sent from GP to GP to Physio to osteopathy to all sort before I finally got referred to the specialist. I have to say I was feeling desperate with pain and lack of sleep but this point and could not work or function.. Mr. Hatrick did a proper assessment and ran tests to properly diagnose the condition and then presented with a road map to managing it. The injection (that was done the same day!) made a massive difference to my quality of life. I wish Insurance providers start caring about actually diagnosing and treating people instead of wasting weeks on cheaper alternatives like physio. I would recommend Mr. Hatrick to anyone with a shoulder problem.

From the outset I was struck by Mr Hatricks direct and no nonsense approach to my problem - severe damage to the rotator cuff area following a fall and too much tennis. By the time an MRI had given details of the damage incurred I was full of confidence in taking a decision to go for a surgical procedure. This occurred on 5.11.21, and I have just been signed off by Mr Hatrick. Through out a number of meetings with him, my opinion remained unchanged and I am happy to report a successful outcome for my shoulder. I have now resumed playing tennis and am looking forward to further progress. He is an excellent surgeon who I recommend highly.

Mr Cameron Hatrick is an excellent surgeon and with an incisive manner which, combined with patient empathy gives one a feeling of great confidence in the outcome. I was recommended by a fellow tennis player to him following a traumatic shoulder injury in the summer of 21 which resulted in a rotator cuff type injury with severe damage to the superior spinnatus ligament. Following surgery in November 21 I have now been signed off and am very satisfied with outcome to date with relatively minor shoulder discomfort I am able to get on a tennis court and lead an active life for an 80 year old.

The care was great and the surgery went really well. My collar bone is fixed and I have no pain. Scheduling was a challenging, with COVID and availability this resulted in a total of 8 months from when I broke my collar bone to having the plate removed. If it is possible to decrease this time scale at all that would be the only way to improve my care.

He undertook two fellowships in Sydney, Australia, sub-speacialising in shoulder and hand surgery.
The first fellowship was with Professor Michael Tonkin in the Department of Hand Surgery and Peripheral Nerve Surgery at the Royal North Shore Hospital. The second fellowship was with Professor David Sonnabend in the Department of Orthopaedics, Prince of Wales Hospital and also with Professor William Walsh in the Orthopaedic Research Laboratories in the same hospital.

In November 1999 he was awarded the Walter Mercer Gold Medal and the Arthur Edward Burton Memorial Prize for his performance in the Intercollegiate Specialty Examination in Orthopaedic Surgery. In 2001 he was appointed as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at the Royal Sussex County Hospital, now the Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust (BSUH). He has developed a successful multi-disciplinary, ‘one-stop’ shoulder clinic based in Lewes Victoria Hospital with an on-site radiology colleague undertaking investigations as required and advanced physiotherapy practitioners reviewing patients alongside him in the clinic. He was the lead orthopaedic surgeon for the Sussex Orthopaedic Treatment Centre from its opening in June 2006 until September 2009. From September 2009 until February 2013 he was the lead orthopaedic consultant for BSUH NHS Trust. He was a member of council for the British Elbow and Shoulder Society (BESS) from 2015-2018. He is currently Medical Director of The Montefiore Hospital in Hove. His practice covers the full range of arthroscopic and open shoulder surgery, including ASAD, arthroscopic and open shoulder stabilisation, SLAP repair, arthroscopic rotator cuff repair, shoulder replacement (anatomical and reverse) and fixation of upper limb fractures.

Teaching and Training is a particular interest of his.
