My 16 year old brother had to go to A&E after my mum called the ambulance at 2:30am. We got to the hospital just after 4. First we were brought to children’s a&e which was great… empty, a bit dark, a lot of space. Because he is over 16 he had to be moved to the adults waiting area. This is where the hell began For hours he waited on a bed positioned directly under a vent by the exit door that paramedics, police, staff and patients walked in and out. Whenever there was a movement nearby the door it would automatically open and he would get colder. He was already unwell, and stayed in the cold area with the dirty sheets, lost and found and spare bandages without being offered a bit of water or a blanket. There weren’t enough staff. There were so many people in beds and chairs lining the corridor outside of the resus room that we were waiting in the entrance, between 2 sets of automatic doors, in the cold for hours. We had no idea what was going on, or what was going to happen next. If it wasn’t for my mum following us in the car and bringing his coat he definitely wouldn’t have been able to sleep. There were multiple people (including police who should know better) smoking just outside of the door where the ambulances park. This meant that when the door opened the cold air was often accompanied by a cloud of smoke. On top of that, when I scanned the QR code on the rating poster it didn’t work. When I typed in the link it said the code couldn’t be found. From our experience it seems like they don’t actually value the opinion, comfort or safety of their patients.

Today, I attended the Byron Centre for a an ECG monitor. Within minutes of arriving; I was early, I was called in by Nicky. She immediately developed a rapport with me by being extremely welcoming and friendly. I felt comfortable and relaxed as she professionally described the procedure and fitted the monitor. Nicky is an asset to the hospital. It was a real pleasure to meet her today.

I was seen in A&E Saturday night/Sunday morning, the delay was 4 hours but that was not unexpected. The care I got from the Dr, who I believe was called Katie, was great. She was professional and kind, and did everything she could to help with my eye problem. I had to go home at 5am and wait for a call back from an Ophthalmologist later that day. After some sleep I was called to return at 2:30pm where I waited in Minors for the very busy on call Ophthalmologist. I had a further wait but Dr Dimitrous Spyropoulos was very thorough and diagnosed my torn retina. He was amazing and went above and beyond to take me himself to the eye dept which is not open at the weekend for laser treatment to stop my condition getting worse. He carried out the procedure and I was allowed home. I cannot fault the care I was given and I would certainly return to Whipps if I ever had an eye problem again. Thank you.

I was seen by Alex Hotouras at his clinic at Whipps Cross Hospital two weeks ago on 10/02/23. He examined me and then explained to my husband and me in ordinary language what might be the problem. He said I needed a Colonoscopy, which I had last Friday afternoon 24/02/2023. Before, during and after the procedure Alex Hotouras was very professional, very congenial, talked to me throughout, explaining what he was doing, and he certainly put me at my ease, which I certainly wasn’t beforehand. I would certainly recommend him 100% to any future patients ….. no ifs, no buts and definitely no maybes.

I cannot praise the A&E Drs enough. I was given great care Saturday night/Sunday morning 26.2.23 by Dr Katie (apologies if the name isn't correct). She was thorough, professional and caring. I was called back Sunday afternoon to see Ophthalmologist Dr Demitrios Spyropoulos who, despite being very busy, diagnosed my retinal tear and laser treated it the same day. He was amazing and I can't thank him enough. Vivienne Reading.
