I was disappointed that when discussing my options it was clear that staff are trained to recommend the pricier versions e.g. 3 grades of variofocal. I find it frustrating that even with a mid-range frame @£115 the final cost of my glasses was almost £350. I appreciate that Boots have to make money but think lens, tint, variofocal etc. are all expensive. I don't have the option of not wearing glasses but do resent the cost.
Visited the Queens road practise a few days ago for a routine check up. Was seen by a young man called Ryan but was called Matt by another staff member while I was there. New machines since I last came but was thoroughly explained and out at ease by Ryan. Once those first checks were done it was then off to see the optician shireen. Shireen was also very polite and explained everything to me so I could understand. I was recommended an update in glasses so back out to Ryan who patiently helped me choose some glasses.
I formed an opinion that the staff where anxious to sell me insurance cover which although was not hard sell to my opinion was mentioned a little too often. On reflection I think that I was steered into the wrong direction with the final choice of specs. I believe that I would have been better informed to have ordered one pair of reading, one pair of reactalite distance and not as I did 1xreading. 1x distance & 1x sunglasses as your professional had said that it would be beneficial for me to have sunglasses. Would it not have been more of a financial benefit to me
to do that? Your Optometrist was very thorough and professional.
