I was given a chloramphenicol ointment for a keritonitis/ corneal ulcer. Every other time I've been referred straight to a hospital. I had to make a second appointment to get the referral, and once seen had to then wait til the next day (a Sunday) to collect my prescription when most pharmacies are closed. I also had to duck out of work to go collect it because I've been in too much pain to wait until I finished. Given my history of belpharitis and frequent corneal ulcers, which I detailed to the optometrist, I should have been referred in the first instance. The second day I was in a lot of pain. I'm ten pound out of pocket on remedies that only agitated the condition, plus the extra cost of making a second trip over. If it had been dealt with correctly in the first instance I wouldn't have had to wait two days to pick up a prescription I know off the top of my head at this point and wouldn't have had to pay 20-30 pounds on treatments that should have been prescribed to me and unnecessary travel expenses.
