I saw an optometrist called Alkesh Patel, whom I have seen for many years at Boots. I have great trust in his competence and was able to rely on his clear advice as my eyesight has recently become poorer due to age. I had a regular Contact Lens appointment as per my contact lens programme and the appointment was made for Tuesday at 2:30pm. When I arrived for my appointment, (I don't know who it was with, but not Mr Patel), there was no record of the appointment, although I noticed later that the appointment had been written on to the box of my lenses which I had to collect from Brent Cross branch. It was when this appointment was not listed that I requested an appointment with Mr Patel, whom I know is very experienced and competent. Last year I had an extra (paid for extra), eye test because my contact lenses were giving me some trouble, and the optometrist seemed inexperienced and was clearly running through a "tick box" exercise rather than understanding the problem and having the competence to address my issue. Locums and inexperienced staff do not encourage me to have faith in your service. You must have properly trained and knowledgeable optometrists if you wish to gain 5 *'s. Mr Patel deserves 5* but the telephonist messed up my appointment, (obviously wrote it down on the lenses box for collection but forgot to enter it on the computer system). Young inexperienced staff are failing the basic job requirements.

The whole experience was good but it did take 2hours which was a concern as I did have other meetings and thought it would take upto 75 minutes and allowed that in day.

I don't know what happened to Boots Brent Cross last week! I booked my appointment about a week in advance. I chose the 10:10am appointment as I was expecting a busy day and wanted to get it out of the way. I received a voicemail message during the week advising me that my appointment had been changed to 9:50am, something to do with one of the opticians not being in that day. That was fine. I was keen to have my contact lenses test as soon as possible since I had been told that my next batch of contact lenses would be held at the Brent Cross branch until I did. Little did I know that there was no real rush because they weren't due until the end of the month, but that's just an aside. Having dropped my children at school, I rushed to Brent Cross to get there on time and I walked in just before 9:50. I gave my name and was asked to take a seat, which I did. But ten minutes later, it occurred to me to ask whether I was booked in for 9:50am or 10:10 after all. I was told that it was for 9:50am and I would be called soon. At 10:05am, I was finally called to see the contact lenses optometrist. He did some checks and then asked me to wait outside again for my eye test. I had not requested an eye test but didn't think I could just leave. I waited a while longer before being called for more tests, then back to the waiting room, more tests, back to the waiting room and finally back to the first optometrist again to check my contact lenses against my glasses prescription and decide on new lenses. I left Boots optician at 11:35am! What on earth happened? I was expecting a 20 minute appointment but was there for an hour and three quarters! I had guests for the weekend and lost valuable cooking time. If I had wanted to spend that long at Brent Cross, I would at least have gone shopping! I must say that every member of staff who saw me was very personable and treated me well, although at least two asked me why I was having the tests - one noting that she had signed me off for two years after my last test at the end of 2015. I didn't know myself why I was there - all I had requested was the contact lenses check that I had been called in for! I left feeling flustered and annoyed. What went wrong?? Apart from this, I have ended up changing my contact lenses to more expensive ones because I was told that they would be better for me and I had to make a decision quickly as the next payment was due two days later. I haven't even had a chance to try out the new lenses properly.

I had an eye test by Optometrist Rajvi Gudka , she is an able and caring practitioner. It seemed nothing was too much trouble for her. I had to have my peripheral vision tested before and after drops. The staff that conducted these tests were very helpful. I would not go anywhere else for eye testing. I found the room where the machines are kept was too small for the number of machines used. I am a fairly big man and think that room could be enlarged for greater patient comfort and more efficient use. As i seemed to stop access to one of the other machines until i had finished.
