You will see that I have put on a false date of discharge. Sorry about that but I had to so that I could get this message to you. This is more of a BIG thank you for my wonderful care I had when I was in Byron Ward, a children's Ward for girls, for six months suffering from Rheumatic Fever in the year 1947, and again for 3 months with the same condition in 1952. Then having to attend for check ups for a long while on my heart because the illness left me with a heart murmur. Being a patient in those days was very different to now. I did not have my parents staying with me, only saw them for a short while and could only wave to my two brothers through the window. I note that Byron Ward is still there, and I think in the same area of the hospital, but not sure what it is used for now. I have only visited your hospital once since, a few years ago, visiting a relative, and it was so good to see that he was in a large ward with nurses stationed at a table in the middle of the ward, just how it was back in 1947. Do remember the nuns, all dressed in white, that used to help out with feeding us etc as we were not allowed to do anything for ourselves, we were so ill. Not happy times but Whipps Cross looked after me so well. I am still living to tell the tale. I now live on the Isle of Wight and aged 82 years. So keep up the good work. My sister in law is in the Dementia Ward at this time. My name is Mrs June Head (nee Hernaman) previously from Walthamstow and Leytonstone. If anyone would like to contact me my email address is: jlhead@btinternet.com. Once again a big thank you.
