My mother, 92 years old, was recently hospitalised with multiple traumas after a fall. Well, the staff tried really hard to help and I mean the doctors, the nurses and the physio therapy team, for which I am very grateful. Everything was fine if not a serious situation with covid. In the same area (Osterley 1) patients with covid were admitted. No serious measures were taken by the hospital despite the risk of spread of covid. The result is that we both, my mother and I, who care about her, were infected at the hospital and we have now covid. Notice that now, also my husband who has cancer is at risk to be granted with covid. I can't really understand how a hospital of a civilised country took this kind of decision without carrying for the safety of the patients. In my opinion the patients must be the priority of any medical institution and this decision has no excuse in my opinion. Moreover, it is completely unacceptable to allow patients with covid stay in the same area with other patients, especially in a period when covid still there, the vaccinations are limited, and there are no regulations to protect people. I discover that there are patients with covid in the same area accidentally and I was shocked but even then no measures were taken. The situation wasn't even announced, which mean that the hospital tried to hide it and no tests were done. This doesn't correspond to safety of sick people. Now we are struggling to deal not only with the traumas of my mother but also with covid and its complications both of us. After this experience I am not sure that we can really trust this hospital, or possibly all the hospitals of this country. My though is that for the safety of people must be the medical staff who takes decisions and who is responsible for patients and no the administration of the hospital. Patients must be the first priority of all in any case.
