I have rated most boxes as average - the reality is that that once through the doors I had good care (I had the results of my test but nothing on care/treatment -perhaps at that point it was not judged appropriate). However I and other patients had shoddy care at Reception. After reporting I was merely told 'S-I-D-D-O-W-N'. I noticed I had not been offered a 'Did you get great care today' form. Next along came an older man, who seemed upset he'd been sent for a blood test but was returning because that department knew nothing about him on his arrival. He was given no response, not even the common curtesy of acknowledging the inconvenience nor the reassurance that it would be sorted out, just 'S-I-D-D-O-W-N'. He tried saying more but met no better response (it wasn't as if the Receptionist was busy, she must have been underemployed as was fiddling with her mobile otherwise). I felt sorry for the gentleman. This employee (hopefully a Temp!) must be made very aware that this response is generally reserved for errant children, or else dogs. 'Please take a seat' is the response of a professional - and I have in 3 years of being a Barts patient, been very used to Staff who are of the best quality! Also, that her job is to look after the patients and to deal with their concerns, not to ignore them. It is a pity that this Receptionist has led to the lower overall score I am giving. I have written this at length in the hope someone will act - not just enter scores from a tick sheet - and give urgent retraining to this person to maintain the good name of Barts' care. Should this not be the case, kindly let me know to whom I can address this concern.
