I spent six days in the hospital having had surgery carried out by Professor Lim. During my time in the hospital I was cared for by a great number of people all of whom were kind, caring, helpful and supportive. I am enormously grateful.

I have a lot of respect for the hospital and it’s staff but certain admin staff in the cardiology under a certain consultant has been rather rude over a simple callback request.

As a parent I was not treated that well prior to my sons surgery but did not feel I could complain as I did not this to affect my sons treatment after surgery

I’m currently in Royal Brompton. The place is clean, the doctors are highly professional and the head nurse is professional. However, there seem to be a high number of junior nurses that don’t seem to communicate any where near as much as they should! Each time you ask them for something, they end up saying they don’t know. It’s very frustrating not knowing anything, isn't it the nurse’s jobs to know what they are doing? Very frustrating experience given I am a heart patient already. I would also recommend that the nurses you hire do have a certain proficiency of English as some of them are struggling with northern accents, etc.

In my experience, the Royal Brompton is a fantastic hospital. In a nutshell, they diagnosed and treated my mother's long-standing health issues (respiratory and cardiac) very quickly, where our local hospital had been unable to do so. I understand that this is the role of such a specialist hospital and that smaller local hospitals can't possibly deliver the same expertise in a wide range of specialisms, but I do wish this had been accepted earlier and the referral had happened 12 months sooner than it did. When the referral was made, my mother was very unwell and quite pessimistic about the chances of recovery. However, her initial consultation happened quickly (ILD Unit with Dr Kouranos) and she was admitted for a range of diagnostic tests the same day (in early March 2018). A potential diagnosis was reached before she was discharged with medication and a management plan (including further tests and a possible procedure). My mother's health declined over the following few weeks, and as a result, Brompton expedited the additional test and arranged the cardiac procedure, which was completed by Dr Fraisse in April 2018. Although she has a long-term condition which she will continue to address under Brompton's care, my mother's critical issue (very low blood oxygen and associated breathlessness) was resolved by the cardiac procedure, which after so many months of uncertainty and worry, is a huge relief to our family. The complete professionalism, empathy, patience and kindness we encountered consistently from Brompton staff (doctors, nurses, consultants, porters, auxilliary staff and diagnostic specialists) has been remarkable. My mother has avoided hospitals throughout her life, but had such a positive experience at the Brompton that she is no longer a nervous patient. The respect and care given to my mother was second to none.
