Review of Ocean Ward A

No organisation was told you are next but had to wait two hour’s twenty minutes with no explanation

Suggested improvements
Too long waiting time sent down for procedure waited two hours twenty minutes before being seen it seems everyone wants to pass you on, out of site out of mind. The staff somehow lost my drug chart and wouldn’t let me leave till they found it but they didn’t find it so I left anyway with the help of one of the nurses after waiting another two hours. I take blood thinners Apixaban no one told me not to take them before my procedure I was asked about reading the leaflet the hospital sent me, they hadn’t sent me any leaflets at all so they couldn’t cut out a cyst of sorts so the whole exercise was a waste of time. But the nurses did try and help where they could and I’m thankful for that they are a credit to the hospital.

Review of Sahara Ward A

All the staff were lovely and the lovely neurosurgeon who sat with us and explained that he would do a biopsy if my husband wanted but my husband was transferred over from Broomfield Hospital when really he was to ill to have any treatment as he had to many brain tumours, doctor Mirza was wonderful he explained everything to us this is what we needed, where we didn’t even see the consultant at Broomfield. Queens Hospital we’re brilliant especially thanks to Nurosurgeon Dr. Mirza

Review of Coral Ward
2nd August 2024

I’m not entirely sure that I was meant to go on coral ward after having my baby! For someone whose life was at risk and needed a GA emergency C-section, to go on a low risk ward 8 hours later I find mental. Not one nurse/midwife knew I’d had a GA and was surprised when I had told them each time! I was never told what actually happened during my labour and didn’t see any after in the time I was there recovering. I have filled in a birth reflection form and waiting for a response. I am and will be forever grateful of the staff and the quickness in how they reacted to save both me and my baby boy but there are a lot of unanswered questions

Suggested improvements
I wasn’t impressed whilst waiting for discharge, the conversation that took place, with what I believe was with a paediatrician. After examination by a midwife we were told baby my be tongue tied, and was to be revived by a maxi facial dr. A lady dr came and confirmed and then said she was going to get her senior! When the senior came, which we believed he was looking for tongue tie and was maybe going to snip it there and there, he proceeded to tell us that ‘he doesn’t think our baby boy has Down syndrome and in fact has dads nose profile’ this was all news to ours and very very unexpected! How that conversation was allowed to happen 1. In front of other patients 2. Without any type of warning 3. No mention of the tongue tie-which now we will have to pay privately to get done! After discharge, my community midwife had no notes on the birth, no discharge notes on baby, couldn’t believe the conversation we had had with the dr regarding Down’s syndrome and that’s how it was left-no test, just wait and see how develops! I received a call 6 days after birth from someone at queens, who needed different information regarding feed times, how much first feed, whether breast/bottle, did baby have bloods tested for the diabetes- all which I couldn’t answer as I had a GA so unaware of timings, amounts etc etc! My husband too didn’t know as he was left for nearly 4 hours without being updated properly on what was going on during the delivery! Baby has been registered as ‘white British’ ahen he isn’t! ,

This is on behalf of my father who had a stroke last week. The speed and care shown by Queens was incredible I was utterly amazed as so many people have negative things to say/. If you need them for a life or death situation you couldn’t be in better hands !
