My experience has been 5 stars, and the only element which has let the hospital down was when I had a spinal operation, and it was stressful enough with the worry, and I had staff coming in to ask me about 3 times in one hour pre-operation, what meals I would like afterwards. After being interrupted several times for this which added to my stress as I was not thinking about food and had to, after my operation, after recovery, when I finally was hungry, I was told, "oh the kitchen only works 9-5" and the kitchens are closed so there is no meal. I was literally dumbfounded at the insensitivity of constant interruptions as if it was the most important question, and then it wasn't even valid. They knew the time of my operation, they knew my recovery, and they knew I would likely be ready for a meal after 6pm. If you can't provide food, don't ask a patient repeatedly pre-op and cause them undue mental stress! This info would have been useful to know beforehand, so I could also have come more prepared with food.
