Review of King George’s - Accident & Emergency - Childrens
26th June 2024

I attended with my 15 yr old daughter early hours Sunday 23rd June. She had been suffering with abdominal pain and nausea. It was a long wait but we found all the staff we met in childrens a&e reception, nurses support staff and doctors were kind, approachable and professional. Special mention for Simone who was able to take bloods and cannulate her without even leaving a bruise . Thank you

After the registration which staff insisted l had to contact 111 despite of my GP advice to attend A&E. All the doctors and nurses were very good treating me with care and compassion

Suggested improvements
Registration process . Only one staff with a long queue to deal with. May be for staff to rad the records as staff asked the same questions several times.

Experienced my first migraine attack I believe. Was terribly debilitating and process was really efficient and quick. Did bloods, obs and CT in less than 2h. As an NHS staff member Im grateful for the care received. The technician/HCA in the CT department was very nice and friendly.

Not a great a experience nurse doing observations decided that what I was telling them was wrong was not impressed by the nurses reactions to what I had said Also wasn’t able to have the correct pain killers prescribed as the dept didn’t have iv paracetamol and as I said to the nurse I was prescribed that for a certain reason and that tablet wasn’t going to work quick enough as I was a post op patient

Suggested improvements
Keep a back up supply of iv paracetamol for the night time and teach staff they need to listen and believe what there parents are telling them and not to reply so to the statement they don’t believe them

I was left sitting in a chair waiting a dr all night. I am an elderly, blind amputee who had a fall after recently having a appendectomy. The carers had me picked up from the floor which led to the paramedics bringing me. I sat here all night and then when I saw a dr was told why are you here you can go home.

Suggested improvements
Have drs working a and e at night. There was only 1 apparently for the entire a and e

Communication was good. I was observed and monitored al the time I was there. I was there for 16 hours but all this time meant my health was being thoroughly looked after. Cannula. Blood tests and X-ray were all done very early on.As were the monitors.

Suggested improvements
I was not kept hydrated properly this is easily resolved. I was not taking tea or coffee but could have been offered squash or water! The food was better than the last time but still dreadful. I had a cheese sandwich which tasted ok biut needed a drink to was it down for every bite. The sandwiches needed another ingredient to make them more palatable.
