Review of Hospiscare - Hospice at Home
16th September 2022

The nurses were so kind, competent and experienced. They gave my mum such gentle care and their confidence in dealing with her death at home and their compassion were just amazing.

Suggested improvements
No. I could not recommend more highly. They helped us deal with the hourly changes and with immediate actions with total confidence and compassion.

I felt the service was outstanding in every respect from identifying a need for certain equipment to make life easier. Delivered immediately and the empathy practical help and professionalism of the care given. Along with practical advice and guidance.

All the care given was very good by those staff urses we made contact with and/or visited us and our dad. However, there was increased stress and anxiety if we needed to contact to contact anyone ourselves in a crisis (or for information) due to the phone call situation. It was not appropriate to have to go through triage and not to be able to speak to anyone in the team dealing with our dad - very impersonable.

Suggested improvements
I think there needs to be a separate feedback form for carers/family of a deceased patient - this form seems to be trying to do both and it does not work. More face to face time with family to discuss the situation and issues arising and what was likely to happen would have helped rather than a 10 minutes phone call once a fortnight.

The nurse who visited was excellent. Kind, caring and helpful.

Suggested improvements
Nothing, unless you were able to speed up blood results being done by NHS. Excellent.

I found that trying to talk to staff that I knew and knew dad was almost impossible on the phone. Everytime I rang with a problem I got a different person who could only judge the answers to my query from his notes. The advice I got was always good, but I found it very impersonal and having to go through a triage situation very off putting which only made it more stressful.

Suggested improvements
1. The above. 2. This form is not suitable for family members when the person they were looking after has dies. 3. In the months before dad's down turn, I could have done with a few more face to face contact where talking about my concerns for my father's health could be discussed fully instead of a phone call every 2 weeks.
