Review of Doncaster Urgent Treatment Centre
31st August 2021

Was seen at A&E first then asked to go to urgent care. Upstairs I wasn’t added to the list properly so waited for hours until I enquired and the mistake was then noticed. Lots of other people came and left before me. The doctor who saw me also didn’t take a proper look the issue I had (a physical one), and stayed in their chair. They were also quite rude and dismissive.

Suggested improvements
Enforcing the policy of having no one to accompany except for children - there were others in there with partners which seemed unfair for those waiting alone. Also making sure that the patient is fully checked in to the system when arriving and checking in at the desk.

Apart from the details listed below I thought that the experience was very good

Suggested improvements
Only problem was the length of time it took from control centre to the doctor. The doctor did apologise and couldn’t understand why they had only just received it. Contact to 111 was about 3.30pm and contact from Doctor was about 10 30pmoffering an appointment at 3am. Rather frightening having to gout alone at that time of day. That was the only concern, other than that my experience was very good. Thanks

The staff where extremely rude and useless when I arrived my partner explained I had learning difficulties, PTSD and borderline personality disorder and the triage nurse started shouting and essentially telling everyone in the department about it including other patients and said well it isn’t that bad iv got people in there with depression and wanting to kill them selfs I think the staff have shocking people skills any one who is medically trained should be aware of having a mental health issue that is incurable isnt the the same as depression that can be treated I would quite frankly rather die then go back to your hospital .

Suggested improvements
Hire better and more discreet staff also give better training to the ones you do have because they couldn’t run a good bath never mind an a&e department.

I brought my daughter to urgent care as she was severely dehydrated as she was suffering from possible norovirus. Urgent care assessed her and said she needed iv fluids. The doctor then rang someone, but said we needed to go to accident and emergency. Her appointment with urgent care was 11.30pm. We went to a and e where we were told to take a seat with everyone else. My daughter was vomiting in a waiting room full of people from arrival until when we actually saw a doctor which wasn't until around 7.00am the following morning. I stressed to staff she probably had norovirus and is vomiting in close proximity to other patients. I was told doctor would see her ASAP. She was not treated with dignity or respect, being ill like that in front of everyone. She wasn't put on a drip until 8.00am. Over 8 hours since doctor told us she was very dehydrated. There were no doctors in a and e all night, they were called to resuss but that left very poorly people with no pain relief all night.

Suggested improvements
Provide a and e with an actual doctor! Provide a side room for someone with a potentially very infectious disease. Actually give someone fluids when they are suffering from severe dehydration when they need it not over 8 hours later.

At 20:20 I was given an appointment to attend at 22:15. I turned up on time and was told I would need to wait four hours to be seen. I was also told I could not bring anybody in with me, but there were at least two other people in there who did not come alone. Several people were also sat on the floors in the corridor, waiting. As I was unwilling to leave my friend waiting in the car for potentially four more hours than expected, by a pub in the early hours of the morning, and because I was in severe pain, and did not take any painkillers with me, I decided it would be best to leave.

Because it was quick and effective, I think 111 should book appointments or offer to see the urgent care centre as pre booked appointment people were being seen before me (3 I believe) however I was there the longest I don’t think it’s the fairest system

Really good service
