Was 6 and a half hours overall with chest pains. There were people in agony waiting for hours. 3 people collapsed in the queue while I was there. Such lovely staff (apart from reception) let down by management and staffing issues. I'd hated to go there in a real emergency, it's very busy with little staff working so hard, they are a credit to the NHS. Management need to work there to get a real grasp of failures and make serious staffing changes.

Suggested improvements
Get more staff. Look after the staff you have and stop just trying to please the audits and management

Both in A&E and SDEC I was treated like I was an inconvenience. I was lucky that I was capable of speaking and had my senses about me because god help you if you didn’t!! A very frail old lady in SDEC was left scrunched up in the same position as when I’d arrived in the morning until she went home at tea time. She was left in her own urine and wasn’t changed until she was discharged. She was asking for help yet all of the staff just kept shouting at her that she was going home, granted she was hard of hearing but they didn’t check on her welfare at all. She was left to open a confusing (to her) sandwich pack on her own, very little fluids and no care whatsoever. Myself and other patients tried to explain to the nurses but they completely disregarded anything we had to say as if we were stupid! It was very distressing and worrying for all concerned. Do the nurses think that as soon as you enter a hospital that we leave our brains behind?! Do they know what profession their patients are in? The nurse in charge was fairly efficient but liked to hear the sound of her own voice and enjoyed telling everyone about ‘rules’ whenever possible even between other departments! There was also no patient confidentiality as the same nurse was so loud and kept nothing secret! No one likes to be in hospital, I would have rather been sat at home enjoying the rare sunshine so it would have been ‘nice’ to not have any extra drama that came with experiencing such behaviour. I never once witnessed an ounce of compassion towards anyone that day, especially towards the elderly patients. This isn’t the first time I’ve experienced such behaviour at Grimsby hospital and I’m sure it won’t be the last but this time I’m voicing my concerns. Please don’t get me wrong, I think the NHS is a wonderful institution and the majority of nurses are angels but they’re very few and far between in Grimsby.

Suggested improvements
More emphasis needs to be placed on nurses to be compassionate and understanding as soon as they begin their training. Being in hospital especially during COVID isn’t a nice experience, we don’t want to be there but then be made to feel as though you’re an inconvenience to the staff just adds insult to injury! More qualified staff need to be on the wards and the unqualified staff that are there need to be treated with respect by the nurses in charge, this would help morale dramatically. Staff and patient humiliation was rife.

The staff were fantastic, they treated my daughter with great care and compassion . I liked how they directed the questions towards her (she’s almost 9) which was nice to see her confidence grow in the nurses and radiographers as it was her first experience of A&E. Once checked in at reception, the actual wait inside the A&E pods was very short.

Suggested improvements
Unfortunately we had to queue for over an hour to be seen at reception which was hard to stand for such a long period with a child who has an ankle injury. There were several older people in line who were really struggling, especially with such high temperatures. I feel there could have been a few chairs available for the people who were struggling.

Care felt rushed and impersonal. Told I needed CT scan then changed mind at the last minute. 7 hours of waiting for 30 minutes of actual interaction with staff.

I went in as u had been sent by my doctor for bleeding from the bottom since tues .... second time this has happened last time in February The nurse who did my bloods was lovely and listened The doctor took me to a room ... sad she was going fit a meeting ... came back said yr meds have caused the bleeding .... felt my stomach but never checked my bottom at any time so I went away scared and frighten ... she sad my bloods were ok that was yesterday 10th ... she said u may bleed fir two weeks Then today doctors rang to say my blood count is higher than it should be !! So no one has checked my bottom .... I have been ill from 20th May contacted 111 on the BH Monday ..... given antibiotics again .... six times in 13/14 months Te photos ... told I had strep throat or tonsillitis ... now told it might be virus Really scared ... last a stone in three weeks

My be reassured me more Examined back passage that’s what docs had sent me to a&e as worried I was still bleeding The stomach cramps are unbearable and the bleeding is still happening with clots

Couldn’t fault the service that I have received so far…from the staff at the doctors to the staff at the hospital , nothing was to much trouble in a very busy nhs

Queue to get to waiting area had only 3 chairs. One person collapsed. Too hot no ventilation in queue area or waiting room. No drinks machine.
