it realy depends on who is dealing with you regarding your care some consultants/doctors are in a rush to get you out.
The staff were very friendly and helpful. Clean waiting room, the cleaners were working even after midnight. The only downside was the vending machines were not working properly and we were there from 11pm-4am
Presented at A & E Saturday evening with asthma (not too serious) and was seen immediately by a nurse and within perhaps 4 minutes by a doctor; treatment commenced within minutes. Doctor explained that I was a 50:50 case but he was going to admit overnight. Ward was spotless (cleaner worked constantly on the one ward all day) and staff good - available when needed but not too pushy. After other hospitals I fully appreciated the stark choice "you go over there and wash OR we bring the water to you". (a different local hospital explained that it is against human rights for patients to be asked to wash!). In my opinion the speed and treatment exceeded what was required.
Other times I have regularly visited outpatients; very busy, sometimes kept waiting after appointment times but care by consultants and staff exemplary. I know the hospital has been criticised by the press but saw nothing to justify such criticism
I have received care at Basildon Hospital as an in-patient and as an out-patient.
Although communication has sometimes been lacking and things tend to move with slow deliberation, I have always found staff to be caring and helpful.
The treatment I have received has been very effective.
