What can I say. From the moment after I had my consultation with Dr Saraswat, the whole process has been an utter nightmare. I had been given a date for my surgery however a very rude woman from the bookings kept contacting me to change the date and time. I had to rearrange several things in my life to accommodate this, including the care of an elderly parent. I arrived at the hospital, very anxious and the receptionist didn't even look at me, she just shoved a clipboard towards me and told me to fill it out. I was shown to my room if you could call it that, it was more like a closet. There were two bathrooms across the hall, one was out of order for the entirety of my stay. I had no privacy, just a curtain. I tried to close the wooden door but the ward nurse scolded me and said it was policy that the doors remained open at all times. I was in the middle of getting changed into a gown, no one attended me until I had been in the cupboard for about and hour and a half. When the surgeon came in without warning and exposed me to several older women in office wear talking very loudly about staffing levels. After speaking to Dr Saraswat and then her anaesthetist I did feel somewhat calmer. They explained to me that my surgery would be late which I was not pleased about. A nurse then came in and asked me the same questions that I had filled out in my questionnaire, she was very unfriendly and when I explained I was nervous she just said "it is only a small general, don't be silly" A theatre nurse came and collected my two hours late, I don't remember her name but physicallyshe was very short and again quite rude. I asked to go to the bathroom before we left and she gave a big dramatic sigh and pointed to the hall, she also laughed because I had my gown on backwards apparently. After surgery, I woke up to lots of shouting and taken to another room. I was very sore but I was too scared to ask for pain relief as the nurse told me it wasn't a "sore procedure for most people" I was soon back in the cupboard, a lot of the staff had gone home and I had to leave my room and go to the nurses station to ask for something to eat and drink. The male nurse however that discharged me home was lovely and I don't think he realised I was still in the cupboard as they moved me into a private room with a toilet not long after. The whole experience was awful. The staff seemed rushed and rude and one blonde ward nurse even rolled her eyes when I asked a question. Maybe I went in on a busy day I don't know but I certainly will not be coming back

I attended the Albyn hospital for cataract surgery. The outcome was exactly as I had wished. Eye sight in the operated eye now being much clearer & sharper. I was treated with courtesy by all staff throughout, & kept informed.

I went in for hip revision surgery. I was well informed beforehand and the procedure was carried out successfully. The nursing staff were friendly and professional at all times and food was excellent.

Need full knee replacement on left knee. My surgeon, Mr Stevenson was excellent. Would answer any question I had and took his time to explain everything. Room was clean and staff were patient and kind.

I had the misfortune of placing my trust in Albyn Hospital for what should have been a straightforward Orthopaedic surgery (total hip replacement). Following post-operative complications, my Consultant Mr Ashcroft repeatedly disregarded my concerns, despite the fact I was in more pain than was normal and walking with a significant limp many months down the line. Fast forward 18 months, I required a second surgery to repair my torn glute muscle (which Mr Ashcroft had failed to pick up on, despite concerns from my own GP & Physiotherapist). This resulted in a third referral back to an NHS Consultant for an expert opinion and a potential corrective surgery. Not what you expect when you've paid in excess of £30,000 for private treatment. Throughout this extremely stressful period (almost 3 years!) I have continuously had to chase reports, appointments, updates and results from the administration team at Albyn and the Consultant Mr Ashcroft. There seems to be a distinct lack of communication and responsibility within the team at Albyn which negatively impacted on my outcome, the timeliness of follow-up surgeries and my overall care experience. I would urge patients considering treatment here to look elsewhere for your Orthopaedic surgeries.

Went in to Albyn for cataract surgery which was no problem, the consultant, nurses and other staff were very nice but when it comes to aftercare, forget it. It seems like once they get your money thats it, cheerio. On some of the paperwork i got home with me there is a mention of, if you think you have a problem with your eyes, in my case floaters, phone immediately as it can be something serious ie damaged retina. There is a 24hr contact number for enquiries with a nurse allegedly, but when i phoned (3 times) i was always put through to the switchboard where i was asked what i was phoning about and my contact details and was told that someone would phone me back, no i am still waiting. So i have went from being told something might be seriously wrong with my eyes to explaining my personal circumstances to a switchboard operator? who may or may not have passed on my details to a third party but nothing has been forwarded to me. Absolutel disgraceful service for a private hospital.
