Review of Abingdon Minor Injuries Unit
19th September 2023

The staff behind the reception at the JR and the majority of the nurses were very kind and understood our situation.

Suggested improvements
The doctor and consultant nurse at the JR frighten us into waiting for treatment with loss of limbs. Making out that due to my child's injury she would be seen quicker than the 8 hour waiting time, which was not the case. Rather than listening to our situation and understanding that going home and being seen the next day would be far more acceptable. Had to discharge ourselves and be seen the next day at Abingdon.

The waiting time was the killer. Almost 5 hours but the personnel were very kind, attentive and efficient.

When we were seen, the examination, x-ray and treatment were expeditious. The paramedic we saw (Dan) was really friendly, approachable and apologetic about the wait time. He took his time to talk to my daughter and me and explain everything well to my daughter.

Suggested improvements
The wait time was very long. We absolutely understood the need to prioritise on the basis of medical need, but there was no triage as we’d called in via 111 beforehand and there was no update on the waiting times whilst in the waiting room.

Both nurses I saw that morning were extremely kind and helpful.I was in a lot of pain and they were so caring it realy helped. Extremely lucky to have such excellent nurses to help us at our bad moments.

Suggested improvements
Nothing could have improved the care/service I received. These people are so important to the public.

The Staff. Very caring . And I was seen within 30 mins and out within the hour.

Suggested improvements
I suppose as ever more clinical staff would have meant more people seen quicker behind me. But that is the nature of things and expected

Friendly staff. Very understanding patient and making light of a situation.

Suggested improvements
Sadly like everywhere the wait time can become a little frustrating.

Dan Wood the clinician I saw was professional, clear in explanation and gave me confidence and reassurance with his diagnosis. Please pass on my thanks to him. X Ray staff prompt and efficient. Please say thank you from me.

Suggested improvements
Reception procedure could be better if their desk was elevated and there was a ledge (say as in a post office) on which one could lean to write. At eye level a smile would do a lot of good.
