Wax in ears and told when l phoned couldn’t be given appt but would need to phone at 8am to try for appt. At 8am in a phone queue of 10. When l got through offered a phone appt. Then on day of phone appt contacted and told doctor said l would need in person appt which l was given that day. Saw doctor and l was her last patient of the morning. She had to go to another room to get equipment to look into my ears which took about 15 minutes for her to return. Told one ear had soft wax in (l had been putting recommended oil in for 10 days) and may come out itself, the other ear l was told was ok. Doctor said l would have to continue with olive oil drops for up to 3 to 4 weeks and if no better book another appt and then hopefully be referred to the ENT which comes to the surgery to have the ear wax clear. As l was leaving the room she said l could go to a pharmacy or opticians who would remove the wax if l couldn’t wait which would incur a charge. On reflection at home l was very unhappy that l wasn’t referred to the ENT person then as l am struggling to communicate with others and the thought of possibly another 4/5 weeks in this condition is unbearable. If the doctor suggested going to pharmacy/ optician to have ear wax remove she obviously thought it needed doing. I phoned around places who offer this paid service and found that there was no appts till late October apart from Lakeland HG on Burton Road who l have booked for this Friday at a cost of £70 which though l will struggle to pay, l will do as l cannot bear not being able to hear people or not sure how loud l am speaking.
