I was told yesterday that the GP I would like to see urgently (Dr [name removed]) would be in today. I rang the surgery at 8.00 am and my call was answered at 8.50 am. [name removed] said she couldn’t hear me very well and the telephone line went dead. I rang back and spoke to someone after 5 minutes. I was then told the Dr [name removed] would not be in until Friday! I explained the reason for wishing to see someone today but felt very uncomfortable discussing personal issues with the receptionist. She even said she couldn’t advise as she is not a GP! I needed her to understand my reasons for seeing a GP rather than speak to someone on the phone. She made a telephone appointment for me with the duty GP for later in the morning. Dr [name removed] was able to reassure me regarding my concerns. However, I would feel more reassured I’d I had a face to face appointment with Dr [name removed] today.

Suggested improvements
50 minutes is a long time to wait for someone to answer the phone then to be cut off. I worry about older people trying to get an appointment.
