Always find the reception staff to be welcoming and friendly. Would say that I can get an appointment to see a doctor whenever I need one although not necessarily with a specific GP. I find the Doctors and nursing staff are very caring and always have time to listen.

The service at South Milford is excellent! The receptionists are extremely helpful and go out of their way to make you an appointment that best suits you. Obviously it is not always possible to get to see a doctor immediately due to demand but every effort is made. I have seen several doctors at the surgery and have no complaints about any of them. My recent appointments with Dr. Whiter have been dealt with extreme care and consideration, he really does go the extra mile!

The surgery requires you name a GP as 'your' GP on prescriptions etc. but the chances of seeing a GP of your choice is minimal. The two teir appointment system means that appointments are taken by people with on-line access to the appointment system regardless of whether they are retired, working or a busy mother. The result is that - unless you want to claim that your condition is 'very serious' you can either (1) take pot luck at 8am on the day of the appointment - if you're lucky you won't need to book time off from work or (2) wait two weeks for an appointment. If you work this is unacceptable and difficult to rationalise given that the surgery is nearly always filled with elderly people. Better care could be provided by having an appointment system that related time available to peoples 'other' commitments - some people cannot take time off for a GP appointment! Other people have much more flexibility. Recognise that people need some continuity of care so the same GPs see a patient on a regular basis or it that's not possible at least the GP reads the notes? Re-instate the 'patients group" - so that there can be a dialogue about what might improve the service!

These days, lots of people say they don't get a good service from their GP surgery. I'm pleased to say that is NOT the case in my experience at South Milford Surgery. The staff, from the secretary, receptionists through to the doctors have been extremely helpful and supportive. I know there are increasing demands on surgeries and limited resources. However, South Milford Surgery continues to deliver great health care for me. All the staff I have dealt with, even those who might be termed 'backroom staff' have been great. I've been prompted to write this review by the fact that I believe that they went the 'extra mile' for me. Thank you and keep up the good work.
